Outdoor Winter Storage, Cover On or Off?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to know how this fares in Switzerland.

I am going to be "storing" my summer car for three months on an outdoor parking spot and was debating whether I should put a cover on the car. Car is insured with Partial CASCO and is 6 years old ~ 23k. Will be storing without license plates.

Advantages ON

Sun/Snow/Dirt/Bird Poo protection

Possibly more concealed?

Advantages OFF

Possibly less curious sleezy cats wanting to see what's under

Reflectors available to prevent night time accidents?

What would be the recommendation? I believe the area is safe enough and most traffic in the lot will be just from tenants/visitors. Usually in North America, a cover invites a bit of unwanted attention, but maybe in Switzerland, people don't even bat an eyelash?

Is that a public outdoor spot or a rented one?

Rented

Reflective tape?

Cats are too lazy to drive.

Off. My local mechanic told me this, to avoid condensation and rust.

Also, on concrete or tarmac, NOT on dirt/grass!

Depends on the cover - some make condensation build up, which is bad.

Also, make 110% sure the car is SPOTLESS, as otherwise wind will shift the cover, which will take any grain of sand/dirt and scratch the paint over time.

If you really MUST - get a proper cover (expect to pay 200+), that is BREATHABLE and fleece lined. Wash the cover (inside) regularly, to ensure you don't get any dirt in there.

Three months is a really short period, so with modern paint, you won't have UV issues. I would put a reflective cover on the windscreen (interior), and a dehumidifier inside... and bobs your uncle.

Indoor parking? There are several winter storage places for mobiles homes around Switzerland. Dry, frost free and with access to electrical plug to a battery tender. Prices are reasonable because they’re far from city centers, even some barns in there.
