I was wondering if you could help me with the export of my car from Switzerland to EU (Poland).
I currently have two cars in Switzeland and I don't need both of them. I like them and I would like to register one of them in my home country and be able to use it there.
The car that I want to export is currently registered under my name, it is using the shared license plates and has an insurance. Usually when people export their cars they go to STVA for the temporary export places+insurance, what costs ~260chf.
My first question is - do I need to unregister my car in STVA before I take it abroad (and also buy that export license plates) OR could I just drive it to the border on my swiss plates, pay the customs tax and in the end register it in Poland. I'd assume that the Polish road traffic office would notify the Swiss office about the new registration but if it didn't I would just do that upon my return. Is that possible?
I searched the forum for this topic and I found some scraps of information that this can be done but no one confirmed if it was successful or not.
Secondly, if you could help me with the types of documents I would need to successfully export the car.
I understand that I need a purchase contract so that the customs know from what value the taxes need to be paid. Is there anything else I would need to prepare?
There is this EUR1 document that is required to prove that the car has been manufactured in Europe, so that the 10% tax can be avoided. Does anyone know how to obtain this document? So far I have only found it on one site where they want 150chf for that. The car is german, and is registered in Switzerland since the beginning.
I'd appreciate any help. Thank you and wish you a good day!
I also add my interest here looking to do so with my RHD UK car - is it mandatory to export vehicle from Switzerland? (Not looking to refund any VAT/duties) Or is it as described above, simply drive the car to the destination within EU/EEA and register there?
As for the EUR1 certificate, reach out to your car manufacturer with VIN number and as for Certificate of Conformity. If you imported/registered your vehicle from Germany yourself you should have had this form..
Probably Polish temporary plates would be cheaper than Swiss and presumably include insurance?
You correctly write you should pay Customs duty when you cross the Swiss border into the EU if your plan is to export the vehicle; whether Poland has any additional charges I do not know.
Right, the difference is that I do not need to get any additional swiss places/insurance. I already got these. If I can export it on them (without getting the special 'export plates' is my concern.
For the EUR1 - I contacted the manufacturer and they replied that they do not issue any evidence as car is older than 10years. Any idea how to prove it now that the car was manufactured in Europe?
I have a CoC for my other car (same brand). I checked it and I did not find there any information about the place of manufacture, so I am not sure if that document is gonna help anyhow
I have exactly the same problem as you had. I've just bought a new car and I want to export my old car and sell it in my country. I'm also Polish Would you share some insights how it went for you? Do I need to get export plates or would it be possible to get back with Swiss Plates? Thank you for help.
If car is registered in your name I see no reason why you'd need export plates... but best is to simply call STVA, this will take 5 minutes and they will get proper information.
