Hi All,
I am moving to Zurich in the coming year and would like to know how possible it is to own a boat in Zurich. Does anyone own a boat and know the costs involved ie. yearly permit, docking costs, waiting period for docking place, boat licence? Any information would be helpfull.
If it is extremly expensive..which I assume, is there a possibility to rent motorboats on a daily basis for fishing/leisure purposes?
Thank you in advance
Al
Dont know much about costs but I am sure they will vary greatly, however you do need a licence, the practical can be done in English, but the theory can only be done in German. There is at Pier 7 the possibility to learn and hire boats too
you can get an inflatable dingy with a 4 hp motor at the local home depot here for around chf 4000. This is portable enough to store in your garage, no need for a docking place.

On a somewhat-related topic, can anyone recommend an instructor for motorboats / sailing on lake Zug? I'll finish up with my motorcycle license this year and will be looking for something to do next year. I drove motorboats very comfortably for about 8 years during my teens, so while I probably have a few bad habits to correct, I'm not worried from a technical standpoint (motorboats only - never been on a sailboat in my life); but I do need to get the appropriate license and all.
English would be great, German's fine.
I have been battling for the last two years and have come to the conclusion: sod that for a game of soldiers, she is going on the med next year.
Its expensive my friend..... For the fact we only get 4 months of boating weather a year its very very expensive. If youre from Florida you will be in shock. If youre from Perth less so.
But if you do it you will have plenty of friends who will want to come out with you!
