Paddle Boarding, anyone?

After leaving the States, I haven't been doing much paddle boarding ( or stand-up paddle boarding as they call it here). Is anyone interested in going out sometime?

There is actually a paddle board club in Zurich . Anyone a member?

I saw some people paddle boarding down the RHine in Basel last week. It seems to be catching on. I paddle most things (kayaks, outriggers etc) but have not yet tried the paddleboards - got rather wet trying a similar concept on a river in China several years ago ( the "board" was a few strips of bamboo strung together :-) I am keen to give the proper boards a try.

Oooo... I like the makeshift paddle board idea in China! Very exotic and "Bear Grylls" like. Ha ha. Paddle boarding does seem to be catching on here. Are you living Basel? I've never p-boarded on a river, but maybe I should look into it. Now that the weather has changed, I might need to get my wetsuit. :-)

I would be interested in giving it a go!

Sounds interesting.... did not quite understand whether you do it on the Rhine or some lake elsewhere and the logistics of transporting the board.....

Would be nice to give it a try though

Cool! Glad to hear I have some fellow paddle boarders!

Why don't we find a Saturday and try to meet up? Bring all your friends along too!

We can rent a board at these places: http://www.supsurf.ch/news/sup-stand...ung-zurichsee/

So maybe we can meet some where between Enge and Thawil? More info to come once I check the weather.

I've only ever bee in still water, so a lake or channels. There are lots of ways to transport a board, but renting one is probably easier.

I'm in guys, so let me know if there is some arrangement... I was actually planning to go to this location, http://www.supsczh.ch/member , to get information about this.

Hey Fran,

Yeah, I saw that website. Seems to have some good resources. We are planning to go out not this weekend, but next (weather permitting). More info to come!

Hey guys, I have never done it but count me in If you send out info about time and place etc please keep me in the loop.....yeeeaaah!!! Finally some water sports here too!

Don't you worry, we will let you know! That's great that you are willing to try paddle boarding. It's pretty easy, just don't be afraid to get wet.

That's not a problem at all I come from an island and quite used to being in the water

That's the spirit! I miss being near the ocean, but I am sure we will have a good time in the lake.

Basher! How are you?!

I want to go Kayaking...anyone got info on that/done it?

Chao

I was also looking to do Kayaking, so if you find out something, will ya let me know ? ... I'm going to do Bungy Jumping and Canyoning on the 10th of September to Verzasca, if someone wants to join me. I've already booked but I can add more people in my booking paying less. Check this out:

Hi Paulie,

Long time no see!

Well, it seems a few people want to do either kayak and/or paddle boarding . . . . me included.

I did find a place in Rapperswil that rents kayaks but obviously only for lake kayak. I did actually post a lake kayak event earlier in the year but had to cancel due to no takers.

I`m interested to do either but I guess it needs someone to pull one of these events together . . . before the good weather finishes for this year.

What sort of kayaking do you want . . still or white water?

For paddle boarding I would be up for an evening or a weekend.

Maybe someone has details of a kayak tirp that is organised - we could book it!

I'm happy to do some still water kyaking as it's been a long time since I last tried it (I was also drunk...)

The OP in this case sits next to me so I can try to convince her to use her finely honed organisational skills to arrange such things...

I'm happy to meet up with some EF'ers and go. I've been going out from Erlenbach with my dog. Having left the comfort of surfing at Swamis in Encinitas (that's San Diego, California), SUP is all I have.

I totally here ya! I am from California and spent 6 years in Fullerton before coming out to CH. I miss surfing (although I am still a beginner) and the ocean. But having the lake so close is a big help! Does your dog ride the board with you?

My dog is not terribly happy with it. He prefers to swim, but since I can paddle much faster, he's willing to ride along, especially if the water is choppy. SUP is easy without a dog, it's quite a challenge with one (he's 50 lbs).
