Hello everybody,
Im having an issue that I have not been able to find help with until now.
I am living in Ostring in Bern and for about 2 years there has been intensive construction on the highway directly next to my building (as well as about 7 others). This construction has been incredibly loud to the point of shaking the building enough so that the pictures fall off of my wall. I honestly dont know if the structure of old this building can withstand that level of vibration. I already have a crack in my wall from the work. There has been night work at all hours of the night. Apparently the construction will continue through the rest of this year.
The work has made it next to impossible to sleep. There have been inconsistent attempts at informing the residents of the noise. This time we had no warning and there was again intense night work from 3:30am until 4:30. They have done nothing to compensate the residents. I have phoned the pannenstreife office itself many times and I get nothing. Just an apology. My verwaltung has asked for compensation from the company once and received a denial. Apparently they have the opportunity to ask again via a different route (as has been disclosed to me by the Pannenstreife people), but I have no right as a resident to ask them to do this.
I have become a member of the mietverband, scheduled an appointment with one of their lawyers and was told that the case would not be covered because it would need to go to the federal level. Their suggestion was to find my own lawyer or to move.
Does anybody have any input on this? I am surprised that as residents here we have had no rights. We have received no compensation and little to no warning. I would really appreciate any help or ideas.
