Opening this thread for sports discussion only just in case there might be someone who wants to discuss sport instead of doping or politics related to the games.

thanks for picking up on my input.
This way the olympic thought and the olympic reality both have a thread. Guess doping will appear in here though :grimacing:

Anyone looking for a medal count can find it here:

Although I’m not certain why this would be relevant as article 6 of the Olympic charter clearly states the games are competitions between athletes and not countries.

Thanks for the link Bowlie. Watching it on BBC now so limited to seeing mostly the british teams competing

Nothing wrong with that.:joy:

The girls did well in the diving bagging themselves a bronze medal.

The cycling time trial for the women was interesting. One of the Americans fell three times. The surface is quite slippery, especially on the painted lines and where the surface changes from asphalt to cobbles. Most of the competitors managed to stay upright. BBC commentators said that most of the handlebars the competitors use now are 3D printed to match the athlete perfectly (the ones where it looks like they hold their fists in front of their face).

There had been quite a few complaints about the road surface prior to the actual racing.

Tom Pidcock, GB won Gold in the Men’s mountain biking.

He had a puncture and needed a wheel change around halfway through and lost 40 secs but still clawed his way up and jostled with first position with France’s Victor Koretzky in the final lap but finally managed to overtake and win.

Truly nail-biting.

Switzerland’s Mathias Flueckiger and Nino Schurter came fifth and ninth repsectively.

I’m disappointed that Rafa was knocked out of singles by Djokovic. He’s so great at Roland Garros that I thought he might pull out another gold. Now rooting for him to win doubles gold with Alcaraz. And why not, I’ll root for Alcaraz for the singles. He’s a phenomenal young player!

Pretty badass I must say, he looks like a guy waiting at the mall for his wife… who just happens to win Olympic Silver.

That stare, he has seen a few things.

Anyway, it’s much easier with targets that don’t scream and beg for their lives.

Yes, saw an article on CNN about that Turkish guy. Makes all the rest of them look silly with all their fancy gadgets.

It seems that most use one eye and so block out the other one. I saw in an interview that he uses two eyes to shoot.

That’s the way Police are taught as they get better peripheral vision.

He’s a Police Officer.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif beats Hungarian Luca Hamori, a well deserved victory given the horrific abuse she faced both from her opponent and the world press.

This is what Hamori posted on her social media before the match, literally I’m fighting a beast followed by more transphobic abuse against someone who isn’t even transgender.

Even the Italian boxer Angela Carini has had the good grace to apologise for her unsportswoman-like performance.

Khelif was born a woman, is a woman and has every right to compete as a woman.

That’s perfection from Biles and the cameraman.
