Hi all. I know that street parking in Geneva is tricky at the best of times.
I'll be down there for one day and night next week, to pack up my apartment and move my furniture out.
I will be loading it all into my enclosed trailer, but need to figure out where to park that and my 4WD overnight after loading, before I drive off home again.
The trailer is too high to fit into any of the car parking stations (as it is, my Landrover fits into them with just 2cm to spare!)
Parking a tralier packed with all my household good and 'treasures' overnight in Geneva- just doesn't compute at all. Where will you be headed the next day? I would begin to head that way and find somewhere you can park safely outside town. If you are going to the UK, I can even let you park here totally safely and even spend the night.
I hear you! Driving down from Zurich to Geneva. Need to park the 4WD and trailer empty somewhere for the day whilst I'm busy packing up. Will double park on the street after hours to load up. Sleep, then head out about 5am to take everything to Marseillan in the south of France.
Worst case, I drove over the border and find a chamber d'hote in France with a big car park and stay there the night.
But I'll still need to park the rig on the day I arrive and am otherwise packing up.
The trailer is actually overdue for a service, so one idea I had was to have that done (and keep it parked) whilst I'm packing. But really struggling to find a mechanic who specialises in trailers (somewhere accessible to the city centre given I'll be reliant on public transport to get to and fro). Which seems nuts. Or maybe its just that my French is hampering my google searches.
I seem to remember that when you move you can have blue zone parking space reserved for you for a very limited time.
No idea if that's possible in Geneve or overnight, but the first option I'd try would definitely be the Geneva police as it would be them who handle the barring off of the reserved spot.
