Part-time Internship as Non-EU Master's student

Hello everyone, I will keep this short as possible. As a non-EU student, will I have an issue getting an authorization to do a part-time internship (less than 15 hours) that is related to my studies.

I know full-time internships need to be mandatory to a student's degree in order to get a work permit. What about part-time ones?

Thank you.

As a non-EU national student you can’t do any work related stuff for the first 6 months of your studies.

I know this. So there won't be a problem getting a part-time internship after 6 months?

Yes, there should be no problems.

Thankss

As a non EU student you are not allowed to do Internships!

You can just look for 15h jobs. But they cannot be Praktika or Internships!

Unless your study program says it is mandatory for the culmination of your studies.

When you find a job let's say at coop or Migros , the company has to apply for the working permit for you. For your 15 hours a week. And mostly those companies don't want to go through this process (that also cost them) in comparison to other students from Europe or Switzerland that don't need this additional working permit .

I also passed through this and it is not easy... Wish you lots of lucks!

Thank you for your reply. May I please pm you for some information about this matter and other general tips as a non-EU student in CH? Much thanks.

I did, albeit in 1982!

Tom

Yes, you can!

I have done my part-time internship while on a non EU student visa in 2021 while completing a bachelor degree... unless the rules have changed since then.

How was the process? Was ur internship mandatory to ur bachelor program?

Basically you need to find an internship, then hope the employer is willing to accept the 15h a week limit during semester (holidays full-time). They will then have to apply for the permission in the canton you’ll be working. The hardest part is finding an internship with 15h as it is not quite 2 full days... but it is definitely possible

And no, it was not mandatory for my study program.

I work in IT so hopefully it will be easier. Much thanks!
