I am looking for advice on a party room for my wedding reception in June, and wondered if anyone out there knows of a nice location, close to Zürich city, that would be good for around 45-50 guests. There will also be a good few kiddies there, so some kind of play-area would also be very welcome. I have been given the name of a few Gemeinschaft places in Zurich, and been told that these are usually where I will find nice rooms at a reasonable price. Anyone have any first-hand experience of renting a nice room for the day ? Or know of somewhere ?
While I am here, does anyone know of a half decent catering company that doesn't cost a fortune ? Sadly I have no job right now, so I can not go mad.

We might be able to help you out on the catering issue... As for room rentals, yes, from our experience the Gemeindeschaftzentrums do deliver the best value...

Choose a location first, then click on 'räume miete'. Few things worth mentioning are:
Their rates vary depending on nature of event so a birthday party might be less expensive than a wedding, a commercial event might be more expensive than a non-commercial etc. Number of people attending also makes a difference to the cost of rental. If you choose one within the same area that you live in, I think you get a small discount (though not 100% sure about this.) If you know someone who books on a regular basis, i.e. for classes, meet-ups etc, you might be able to get it slightly cheaper than normal. Most of them usually have a small park, disco room, kids play-room, kitchen, china/cutlery/utensils for catering, etc. You can also ask for room separators to divide big halls into smaller rooms or vice-versa. Another option worth exploring (one that a close friend is using for her wedding Apero) is the American Women's Club in Zurich. I think they are well equipped for parties for up to 100 people. They are not that expensive compared to other places where you often get charged per square metre of space rented!! Link given below:

Click on 'Contact Us' followed by 'Rent the Clubhouse'. You might need someone, who is an existing member, to sign the contract for you as it's a member-only policy.
