Pasty

Hi all

fairly longish time resident of Switzerland. Been lurking many years.

Originally from the midlands, but spent my formative years in Cornwall, hence the ID.

Seen some interesting threads on the forum, the oldies seem to have some useful knowledge, but quite a few noobs seem incapable of using Google, or searching.

I look forward to making a useful, and occasional critical, contribution

Welcome pasty! If you can make em, post photos here I'm sure everyone's interested in proper home made Cornish pasties in Switzerland

Anyway, welcome!

hey pasty, welcome to EF. All useful contributions are welcome, and if you are critical enough they'll make you a MOD

Thankyou.

Pasties, easy! Steak & Kidney pies, scones, crumpets etc etc.

Had roast leg of lamb this weekend, with home made mint sauce. And made mince pies with my daughter and granddaughter for Christmas. Haven't got round to a pud yet, but will.

I just go to the BBC food pages if I need a recipe for something I didn't cook before, or ask my old Mum.

As soon as I can figure out how to add my pics, I will

Hello pasty and welcome to noobs-R-us

Hi Pasty and welcome! Yum yum yum, my favourites (I am from Cornwall too).

dag nabbit, I opened this thread hoping to find a link to pasty's , a photo spread of pasty's ( careful on that one ) a recipe...

anyway, welcome to the madhouse pasty and while I can't claim to be Cornish ( would never dare ) I am a proper Emmet ...which our Cornish neighbours ( mrs G and I have a house near BodminMoor ) will never let me forget.

OK, I've put a few there if you want to check them out.

Porthleven born & bred, I am.

I do miss a proper pasty like they make down in the south-west of Cornwall. Washed down with a pint of Tribute while sitting on the harbour wall - aaah, the memories...

I went to school with the guys behind the West Cornwall Pasty Co.

I thought someone was importing pasties.

Now I'm fricken starving

Oh stop, I am already homesick! Their pasties are fab - probably the nearest thing to home baked. By the way, I am from Kingsand, along the coast in south east Cornwall.

Kingsand , kingsand.... kingsand.. *wracking my poor lil brain* ...

no it was Whitsand mrs. and I stayed at one time when we had to go home on short notice and couldndt get into our own place ( again for those bloody emmets )

and for what little it's worth.. Casino Supermarket ( the one in Divonne les Bains at least ) stocks frozen pasties... not the same as being on a beach somewhere with a fresh baked but suitable in pasty emergencies.

Yes, Whitsand Bay! My local beach - miles of white sand, interspersed with rocky bits and with a fort at either end. Kingsand 2 miles ...

we were at the big hotel looking out over the beach... we were only there two days before our own place opened up and a storm was blowing pretty much the whole time.. but it was gorgeous...we did brave one trip down to the beach for the half hour or so the sun was out

My parents are still living in 'druth. Celebrated their diamond wedding yesterday.

I remember attending my best buddy's wedding there. Reception was at their house, and the meal was a huge box of Pasties. What a treat with a pint and some brown sauce

Make 'em yourself like I do. Pastry is too much palaver to make yourself, so get those prepacked rolls in the supermarket. The only time you can get Swede or Turnip is around October/November time. Often in Jelmoli in Zürich, occasionally Coop or Migros. If you can't get them, use Kohlräbi.

If you check the link someone posted earlier in the thread, you'll see pics of a batch I made a couple of months back. I've finally mastered the crimping too.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I wondered if any of you guys played Euchre too? If so, take a look at my post. It's currently on the commercial thread by mistake.

Hopefully a mod will move it to social.

There is a pasty stall in Zurich today and he told me he would be there next weekend too ........I had the traditional one and it was damn close to the real thing !!! He is at the little fairground behind the ferry boats at the lake .....

Also got a delivery coming from the pie man tomorrow .....

Now if a KFC was to open here next week my life would be perfect !!!

That'll be Daniel Kägi, he does a lot of events with his Cornish Pasty trailer, I agree, they are the about as good as they get (and he's Swiss!)

and of course the chedder cheese I bought at Wednesdays HB market also went a long way to making my life perfect !!
