Paypal debt collection from germany after me

even worse, Western Union.

As i said, it was an emergency.

I did, but it was my daughter and she needed money for a plane ticket, and it was the easiest/cheapest way to send money to the US.

Tom

Seems strange to me that someone would just gift you money out of goodwill. They could have wired it or used Western Union.

Whatever, it was refunded and now you'll have to pay it back and for that amount they will go after you in Switzerland through a local agent. Best to make an offer or some sort of payment terms.

Thanks!

And you are saying that PayPal did not give you any warnings that the case would be put in the hands of a debt collector?

if you were in my shoes you would not find what he said a bit funny or entertaining at all.. its a very annoying situation and i dont need someone making a joke about it..

they told me to fund my account of course but i did not.

1. i dont have the money

2. it was a very helpless situation on my part to find myself where I am.

This is not an answer to my question.

they told me

As I said ignore them. Its a scam

I have not paid any Paypal fees when transferring money to friends/family as gift via Paypal, though it was always less than a few hundred.

Keep giving worst advice ever and you'll get your 6 red blobs eventually.

There are, but far less than Western Union.

Tom

Lots of people use PayPal to send friends and family money. It's used quite a lot. Probably more than in Switzerland. It used to be almost free to send money as a gift.

Some years ago I sent myself $5000 from/to 2 countries for almost nothing.

As for the OP it seems very strange they would out of the blue ask you for 2000 on a 200 debt. How long have they been chasing you for the money?

You got it backwards, it's 200 fees on a 2k debt.

Tom

So I did. That makes much more sense.

I'd be very surprised if German civil law were enforceable in Switzerland, so the sharks would have to go through the Swiss system to get anything.

I would imagine in any case that German consumers are infinitely better protected than Swiss consumers.

In case of quarrel, place of jurisdiction is usually the place of the vendor. Not the one of the client.

Therefore Germany.

Oh it ́s the Nigerian Princess scam.

Germany and Switzerland are both part of the same treaty which obligates countries to respect a verdict spoken out by a judge. (unless against public order and such, which is not the case here)

1. Paypal's legal department goes to court in Germany.

2. Gets a verdict.

3. Give order to retrieve the money to a company in Switzerland.

4. OP pays or has eventually his belongings or payments out of work seized (with a lot of additional costs.

And consumer protection has hardly anything to do with this. OP says payment was proper but lacks to proof properly she indeed wanted to give him money, the T&C is extremely clear about this.
