EF'ers, seeking input please from any of you that have pellet stoves installed in your homes. I have a cast iron Italian made wood stove already in the house that I continue to rave about after 8 years, but after a recent extension, need to add additional heating, and now that the burning flames in pellet stoves have become more visually appealing, am considering that route for a circa 8kw heat output unit.
However, I keep reading in other online forums, that pellet burners are very noisy. Researching specific manufacturer sites, and their youtube promotional videos, I see many references to "quiet" operations, but ironically, am yet to find any of the "better" manufacturers of pellet stoves who haven't added a musical soundtrack over their clips of their stoves running - hmmm. And I've not yet found any decibel measures provided...
In phone calls to resellers, I'm told that quality pellet stoves aren't any noisier that a fridge, but the latter vary HUGELY in their buzz levels.
Queries across my personal network, have pellet burner owners raving, but all admit to being households that play music or TV constantly so don't really notice burner noise. Hmmm again!
We have an MCZ pellet oven in our holiday home and I can confirm that it's definitely louder than a refrigerator. It's mainly noise on days that we first go there and seriously needs to warm the house up, then it's also blowing on full speed.
Once the house is on a normal temperature, it's fine actually. The noise doesn't bother me as it is not constantly working but it's definitely not the most silent kind of a heat source
Yes same response. we also, coincidentally, have an MCZ, and if you ratchet it up it really - really - heats the room but its loud, on quiet its fine. Note that if you put it on low its quiet execpt every 15 mins or so it blows hard to clean up the half burnt ends I assume, so there is some noise even when on quiet. We use it to heat the room when in us, not on a permanent basis.
Where a friend of mine lives, they replaced the heating with pellet. I'm surprised to read they can hear it at all times. In my friends place you hear nothing until the pellets are .... delivered? refilled? THAT WAS LOUD, LOL. Not sure how many times a day/night that is done.
My friend claims he got used to it and no longer hears it but he's a very generous person when it comes to noise. However as I said, it's not constant.
