Hi there,
I am a spouse of a Swiss national, currently in the process of obtaining a family reunification visa. Once I have the visa, I believe the next step to getting a Permit B is entering Switzerland with this visa, going to the canton where we will be based (Vaud), submitting paperwork and doing biometrics.
Does anyone know what the average processing time for Permit B in the Canton of Vaud looks like? How long will it take for me to be able to work?
I have heard many different timelines, ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months
Impossible question to answer other than to say processing is delayed due to Covid and Ukrainian refugees.
In any case you will need to go to Lausanne to have your biometrics recorded. A simple train journey and 1 stop on the Metro. In and out in 15 minutes.
Thanks for the input. I do hope it doesn't take us 6 months!!
It's probably not a valuable piece of information anymore: a few months before COVID started it had taken us about 2 months to get it in Lausanne.
I've heard stories that in Rolle people were able to get it the same day.
Thanks, this is still helpful to know as a baseline!
And those are exactly that - only stories.
Permits are never issued the same day & never by communes themselves.
To OP - Once you file your demand & register your arrival at the commune of residence ask them
for a letter stating that you are in the process for your permit.
This will help you with some of the administrative matters.
