Personal Wifi...

I'm going to take a long driving trip with others.

I am considering getting a personal wifi for the vehicle.

You know the type - a mifi/wifi/pocket internet provider so all my passengers can use the same service.

I'll be driving throughout Europe.

Anyone have one of these, have recommendations on which to get and maybe letting me know which NOT to get.

Thanks

Some old android phone in "hotspot" mode maybe?

Not sure if prepaid eu sim card will allow unlimited data roaming

My Italian SIM allows 20GB/month in EU for EUR9/month.

I've got a couple 4G pocket modems that I use, a NETGEAR AirCard 785S, and an Alcatel WebPocket.

Both last many hours (virtually the whole day), and charge fine off of USB phone chargers.

I have a HUAWEI E5885 as a hotspot. This is their top model.

You will need to find a EU data plan(s) that makes sense for you given the countries. Do some searches. Lots of questions about data plans have been asked in the past on EF.

Since it will be on all day and lots of usage, you will need to look at options for charging/recharging the Huawei while you are driving. You could look at car charging (make sure about the requirements !) or you could use a 10'000 battery pack/power bank to do the same thing.

The best solution is a mobile hotspot.

It is also better than the old phones, because the battery is better able to withstand and the display does not have to be afraid.

I know Swisscom has such a device, if not an unlimited european data plan is good. Maybe don't contract it in Switzlerland but abroad, it might be much cheaper.
