Does anyone know where the pet pick up is (from being transported in cargo) at Zurich airport? We’ll be driving from Lausanne to pick them up, unfortunately we can’t get them after they land on the Friday as the flight arrives at 4:30 and I was told there is no one to clear them after 5:30, the process apparently takes 2 hrs. Also worried about collection on the weekend, i’m assuming someone is there to do the handover?

Basically you have 3 formalities to get through.
Swiss Cargo
Swiss Customs
Swiss Veterinary Service
They are all close together, as you leave the main building at the departure level. with you back to the building, turn left. past the car park and look for Swiss Cargo. They will help from there. However you will need to go to the vet service who will issue you a document that Swiss Cargo need to clear the animal. There will be some clearance costs to pay, and maybe some duty - we had to pay duty even though it was a Swiss cat, microchipped etc, being bought back from South Africa.
Total of all the costs for clearance was in the region of CHF 200.
Amazing, thanks so much for the detailed info! Very similar to picking up a pet in Toronto, had to run to 3 separate buildings with different forms. Only wish I could get them the day they get in :/
All three offices are in the same building or very close by.
You may be able to pre-clear your pet so could perhaps pick it up same day. The vet service is open till 11pm and customs 24 hours. Not sure about Swiss Cargo. We arrived with ours in the morning so not a problem.
