"Petition to eliminate 1st class from SBB trains"

These communist youngsters…

Abschaffung der 1. Klassen bei den SBB: Das steckt hinter der Petition

I don’t travel 1st class in trains except on the very rare occasion – but trying to pass a petition to eliminate 1st class…
what is next? asking everybody to drive a Skoda? Eliminating meat from menus? Ah, wait, they have already achieved that…

Makes sense.
Think about it, the trains, especially the commuter trains are crammed full with people standing on each others toes and at the same time there is a whole carriadge empty except for two or three bored looking buggers.

This communist youngsters don’t know what does it mean crammed full.

TBH, the 1st class arrives as late as the second class. When a train is cancelled, it’s not like the 1st class arrives and the 2nd gets cancelled. When there are works on train stations, both classes walk around the same dirt.

I am not that old to need to sit in a 30 min ride in a commuter train. I have only found 1 practical use: going to the airport with baggage. There is more space.

How about no more than 20% of carriages should be 1st class?

Are thete any studies about the usage of first class?
I know that, for instance, the German ICE trains are mostky packed to the rafters in steerige with first class mostly empty.

Skoda is a luxury comrade, those ones are export only. Trabant will be the one for you, with a 10 year delivery delay to offset the ecological impact /s

We dont need no 1st class people.

My experience has been the opposite, first class was so far also pretty full, just not overflowing like second class. Maybe because, at least if you’re using a saver ticket, the price of the upgrade is pretty reasonable - much less than the SBB price difference.

With the CFF reducing frequency and, in particular, train sizes it is nice to have an option of getting a seat, or a bit of quiet.

A tip: If you can’t find a super saver in 2nd, have a look at 1st. Often you will find one that is cheaper than the ordinary ticket in 2nd.

One would certainly hope that a saver is cheaper than an ordinary ticket in first! But I assume you mean second…

We dont need no two class society.

It all sounds good, until they realise that it means the 2nd class fares will go up to make up for the reduced profits.

On airplanes, sometimes 70%+ of profits come from business class.

Perhaps introducing a standing only carriage without seats would also help.

oh, I think we already have one, no? and people pay dearly for it!. And with wooden seats!

I do agree, but the top 10% don’t take trains.

Wait, my english is limited… two negations together … hmmmm
you mean, we need a two class society?

My question is – if you work hard, and you have some money to offer you (or your loved ones) some increased comfort, and you live on a country where there is only one class for everything…what’s the point of working hard? what’s the meaning of life?..
