I have a Philips Flat Screen TV, that we purchased in the past few years in France at Darty. It is now outside of warranty. For the most part the TV works fine. However, very annoying, the left side has two, top to bottom, stripes of the shade of yellow, that take up the entire left of the TV screen. Initially, the obvious banging of the top of the tv seemed to make it work, the first time. Now it is still there. I'd prefer to fix it, because it is still fairly new, and it wasn't cheap. Anyone have any ideas?
Is it a constant fault or does it get worse when the TV is warmed up or is it worse when the TV is cold at start up?
Could be a bad joint on a circuit board component or internal plug-and socket connection.
The jolt given by banging would work the first few times and then not afer a period of time as the metal around the break has probably oxidised over time, thus ensuring a constant bad connection.
If it's a BGA chip ball that's open circuit - you will not be able to fix it at all.
How good are you with a soldering iron? If this sort of thing isn't your field then chances are, if you do try and have a go, you'll make things worse.
I'd get a quote from a repair shop.
Well actually I am not even sure, for certain, it is the banging that helped, as also I had played with some of the input cords too. I turned the tv off, then when it came on again it worked the normal way. I figured incessant banging would d more harm then good, so I did that only once or twice. It happens hot or cold, all the time. I used to do alot of Radio Shack little soldering gun like projects when I was a kid, but not since. I don't know where to go for tv repair, so any suggestions would be kind. Otherwise I think I have seen a post on here some time ago about a shop in Zurich.
Well you can try Media Markt. They take in repairs. They charge various rates to send equipment back to the manufacturers. My Nintendo Wii just cost 90 francs. Although I haven't had it back yet
They will send the equipment to be acessed and let you know how much it is to repair the item. Then deduct the fee you paid them from the cost of repair. That is if you go with their estimate.
We bought a Philips LCD TV here 18 months ago. Within 3 months it developed a fault with the power supply making a high pitched whistling noise. We got it fixed under warranty.
Doesn't seem like I'm having much luck with electrical item here. So far, The TV, the Dish washer, my cable box and the Ninetendo Wii have all developed faults. Hmm time to call the regie and have the electrics checked out. Since I know the previous tenant like to do a bit of home wiring.
Good luck
Someone say electronics repair?
Are you sure it will be worth it to have a shop look at even? Most places charge Fr. 80.00 just to see it then Fr. 130.00 per hour plus parts...
