phone adaptor & internet / phone modem

Hi

perhaps someone has some knowledge on the following..I have a subcription with a cable provider and are using their internet and phone service. They provided me with a internet / phone modem so that I can plug my phone into the modem. With the provided adaptor it would work fine with a swiss telephone but as I brought my Uk cordless phone with me I can not plug the lead into the provided adaptor. Does any one know how I can use my UK phone with a swiss style phone socket or where I can get an adaptor?

many thanks

I think you need to seek an RJ11-to-RJ11 cable - from most electrical stores for about 20 francs.

Annoyingly, the only ones I've found are 10m long....!

Also modem cables RJ11-to-RJ11 probably won't work...

As Lob said - you'll probably have some luck if you take the relevant parts (phone, modem, cable) to an electronics store and ask them for a solution. Any solutions offerred on this forum, will all have one thing in common - they will require you to go to such a store.

I have to add that I do believe a UK phone will work through the cable modem but do know of people in the past connecting to the Swisscom Fixnet network that had to buy a converter to connect to the phoneline (ie. changing cable did not work) so ... your mileage might vary.

Couple that with the power plug/adaptor you'll need and you might find the sub-100 franc phone with caller ID etc to be your best solution....

Thanks for the adivse....I might well take the option of getting new phone. I 'll try another modem cable which i'll plug directly into the phone and modem, the one I have from the old phone is a bit twisted.

pin-out on the modem cable is different to the phone cable, IIRC

I have done this for a UK phone, it works for the cordless but the answering machine does not like it. So I ended up buying a cordless phone second hand for 30 from ricardo including an answering machine and caller display.

But my uk phone only works with cablecom digital phone, not with swisscom as the signal is transmitted differently so you will not get a tone.

Do you have any suggestions on the best Residential Voip Service ? I have been looking around for a little while, and am not sure which one to go with. Thanks in advance.
