Am also assuming you've had a read through the Swiss foodstuff laws if you're starting up professionally.
I'm based in Geneva and i'm currently setting up a cake business too. I'll be baking the cakes from home and i'm currently looking into getting a market stall to sell them. Can you help me with some information on the food/business laws of switzerland and or the Geneva Canton?
I have a B residence permit - is this ok for starting a sole trader business?
Can i work on a market stall selling cakes before registering the company? I would like to see if it would be successful first before registering. Is there a grace period before you have to apply for work permits, register company names and get food hygene certificates? Are any of the above things even necessary? I would like to test the water first with the business but don't want to be breaking any laws.
Thanks for your help.
Testing the waters was the actual goal of this post, so whoever has the food/business laws for Zurich-in English- please forward that information as well.
Thanks
I'm sorry I don't have details for Geneva or other cantons in Zurich.
Richard also wrote a comprehensive thread on starting new businesses in Switzerland. So if you dig that up, I'm sure you'll find a lot of information there.
As far as I know, it is not permitted to prepare foods that you want to sell professionally in your own living quarters (i.e. "from home" as has been suggested here a few times), due to hygiene regulations. But, if anyone has contradicting information, please let us know (incl. source).
