Pillar 2 payout not being wired to US by Pension Fund

After leaving Switzerland for the US in June, I opted for a full payout of my pillar 2 pension fund. That was supposedly done on September 30 of this year and the wire transfer was started (after the tax withholding of course). It's been now 24 days and I still haven't received the funds. The firm holding my pension fund has difficulty responding to my e-mails and doesn't answer my questions when they do. The one e-mail I received this month (over a week ago) just said that their bank had difficulty with the transfer and would try again.

My questions are: Is there a regulatory authority in Switzerland that regulates these pension funds (Pensionskassen)? Is that done on the federal level or the level of the canton? Would it be part of FINMA, Eidgenössische Finanzmarktaufsicht? I'm looking for a useful cattle prod to get a little action out of them. for the last 24 days my pension savings from the last 17 years is out there somewhere floating around in limbo.

Open a Wise online bank account and have them transfer the funds there. You can then convert to USD online and transfer to your US bank account.

I have been dealing with WISE for years. Unfortunately they don’t offer accounts in CHF that allow external parties to make deposits. I got that info from their customer support today.

Exactly - This is 100% correct - A pain and cost me 250 CHF admin fee from Liberty for this which I was angry about

Had to use their FX numbers which were not great

Anyone know how to receive CHF from third party pension and fx themselves - Does revolut do that?

WISE definitely DOES NOT

Maybe I am missing something, but why not just deposit money to a swiss bank account? Are you barred from having one if leaving?

Many Swiss banks have frozen out US clients, and even closed down existing accounts, in the wake of a damaging legal battle with the US Department of Justice over tax evasion.

yeah sure, but presumably while here you have access to them

Then you could do this

1) deregister

2) have pillar 2 paid into swiss bank account

3) transfer bank account balance out

4) close swiss bank account

It's been a few months, but I finally got the 2nd Pillar payout. The fools also sent me the Swiss tax withholding (Quellensteuer) and I had to send it back to them. I was tempted to keep it, but decided to go through official channels to get it back, since I always claimed the contributions and interest on my US tax forms.

It's proven to be a daunting task. I have the necessary Swiss form Q-IS, but it requires a signature and stamp from the IRS. Yesterday, I drove 250 miles round-trip to an appointment with the IRS who, after contacting supposed experts and managers, simply gave me a phone number for international taxes that I should call.

Has anyone here been through the process of applying for reimbursement of the tax withholding from a Pillar 2 payout? If so, who at the IRS provided the necessary signature and stamp on form Q-IS?
