Piptal drops for Colic relief for babies

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has used Piptal drops for colic relief for their baby. My one month old has colic and the paediatrician gave me these drops to use. I have used them and they are helping but I would like to hear from anyone else who has used them and what their experience was like. How long you used them for etc etc.

Look forward to hear from you.

Delly

I'm curious to know what is in them.

If you make formula, try putting some fennel or cardomman in the water prior to mixing (remember to remove it before giving to baby!)

Is it this one ?

That's a pretty serious drug for a Paediatrician to prescribe - was your bubs premature or do they have other medical problems ? Actually, I'm fairly amazed that a Paediatrician would prescribe any sort of medication for a 4 week old baby (mine would be more likely to prescribe something for the mother like 'better support' 'less annoying advice' and 'someone to do the housekeeping'... )

Otherwise, I could make lots of 1:1 suggestions, but 'colic' is very common for a 4 week old baby...my personal experience with my first child (I have three), is that the main cause of her crying was overstimulation/lack of sleep. She was overstimulated from being handed around, taken out and in the car a lot...with our third one we had learnt our lesson and I took him in the car about 6 times in the first 8 weeks, and went out just once each day for a calm walk, and the rest of the time we spent at home in the peace and quiet. We also didn't let anyone hold him much at all, and we kept the routine fairly predictable...although routines do not come easily for me at all!

My husband always says "whoever coined the phrase 'sleeping like a baby' obviously never had kids!"...

Can I suggest that you perhaps try a mothering/parenting/breastfeeding website ?

Personally, for breastfeeding advice/support I recommend this one:

www.breastfeeding.asn.au

For general parenting advice, there are plenty around, of course it can also be complete 'information overload'...

I did find this link and it seems pretty reasonable advice :

I got infacol and colief drops from the UK, over here they gave me flatulex - nothing really worked but the infacol/flatulex (similar product) seemed to ease the problem a little - i know it seems like forever now but they really do get better by 3 months and it will be there before you know it

or Gripewater if you can find it in a chemist. that workd for us.

Product from Boiron called Cocyntal Colic Relief comes highly recommended. It's a homeopathic formulation and you can find lots of information about it on the web.

Good luck.

My midwife told me the following positions are helping colics.

It's difficult without pictures, but I try to explain:

1. Baby facing the world and you hold it underneath it's legs while baby's back is facing your front. With your arms you can form sort of a bassinet/swing.

2. Baby is lying belly-down on your arm, while you hold with with your other arm the rest of the little body. Baby is turned so its back is facing you and the head is situated approx. about in your inner elbow.
