Pizza restaurant recommendation [Zurich]

I agree with Rosso WRT a thin crust pizza. I am from California, so I like the US style and usually make my own at home. But if I go out, I like Rosso.

For delivery, I get Domino's or Piratino...again, depending on whether I want an American style or European. To get a good US style at Domino's you need to do double cheese!

Just make your own!

the manager of the Grappolo took over from a predessessor who had excellent wines, but a mediocre cuisine and a lousy service, but really did the turn around

the one at the Bahnhof in Glattbrugg inherited a good but boring cuisine and made nice pizze his specialty

The Albisgarten is managed by an Indian who grew up in Zurich and so made his restaurant into an Italian restaurant, which really is good

Santa Lucia yes, Dieci not on my nelly.

Cardboard tasting base in my experience, but I haven't used them since the delivery service near me closed a couple of years ago and the fiasco at the trendy looking Rapperswil restaurant service during peak hours.

Good for novelty value of delivering to the lakeside on a summer afternoon (pizza can be used as a messy biodegradable frisbee if you don't like it).

But it may vary by outlet.

I really would recommend the Tandoori pizza ( Tomaten, Mozzarella, Tandoori-Poulet, Koreander, Ingwer und Naturjoghurt ) at Toto 's in Seefeld. Simply gorgeous.

But the last time I was there though, they wouldn't serve it on a Sunday lunchtime as the place was being operated by a bunch of kids with no 'grown up' over 30 years old with customer focus.

Scala is also good as mentioned above. The odd wonky oval shape base is also used at Pizzeria Grottino 77 near Zwinglihaus and also isn't bad, maybe it's a franchise.

Frascati on the lake at Seefeld is a bit classy for a date even if it's basicallly a Molino restaurant.

Golosone mentioned before is recognized by many in Zurich as the best pizza. I went there and it wasn't bad.

I would actually rate Vapiano at Sihl City quite highly. Business atmosphere, not up to Italian standards but nice, light and fresh pizzas.

To the OP's question from a few years ago. I've seen other threads questioning why on Earth anyone would want a deep pan pizza in the first place (as if pizza in CH is on a par with Italy). Pity there is no deep pan option apart from Sams. I wish Pizza Hut was still available for those times you're feeling a bit naughty. There, I've admitted it.

Dear EngliForum friends,

I live in Zurich and this evening I would really fancy a good italian pizza.

Any sugggestion? I have heard that Grottino77 and Don Leone are good restaurant, but what is your suggestion?

Many thankssss and have a nice week end!

I liked Scala in Schaffhauserplatz.

Il Golosone gets my vote.

Grottino77 has one of best Pizzas in Zurich. I have been there number of times and was never disappointed. It is good value for money as well. They serve beers and wine. Having said that it is not the best place in terms of ambiance, a bit small. parking is an issue.

But in spite I would go there any day.. enjoy

santa lucia is pretty good but is not chicago or NYC style

dont bother with those rude people at Il Golosone.

sam's is awful, if you go there you don't value your marriage!

vapiano has very good pizzas

good luck!

We used to go to Rosso, as it was in the neighborhood where we lived. Looks like its reputation has plummeted.

Jump on a train and go to Ticino for a better pizza or a steak in one of the grotto's that won't break the bank! ;-)

My favorite is Azzurro - http://www.ristoranteazzurro.ch/

thin base, huge pizzas and homemade fresh pasta

November special was pasta with Tartufo - amazing - and for December is with seafood, can't wait for it

portions are so big i can never have a complete desert

The pizza's at Vapiano taste great. If you don't mind the self service and eating in a crowded place this is the place to go. Their salads and pasta's are also very good.

Forget about the desserts however. Both tiramisu and chocolate cake are dissapointing.

Don Leone .

I forgot the name, but across the street and down just a bit from the Park Inn in Rumlang near the Zurich airport on Flughofstrasse, is a great pizza place, all you can eat for like CHF 12. I think its called Valentino pasta e pizza??

Im a big fan of two places, bear in mind I've only been in Zurich for 4 months. However I do work close to Bahnhofstrasse so I have been able to explore local restaurants and I have found some great food in the process:

1. Casa Mia: right at the Werdemuehleplatz the pizzas are in the 27-30 CHF range but they are big thin crust and fresh. Also they have pizza Federer which is served with a fried egg on top and prosciutto. http://www.restaurantcasamia.ch/

2. The other place is Ill Golosone on Uraniastrasse 20. Its cheaper than Casa Mia but the oven they cook the pizza is perfect AND the pizza is even bigger than the ones at Casa Mia. Price range 22-25. You will have a problem finishing this pizza.

Here is a pizza place that you probably have heard nothing about but its awesome cheap is great for take outs when you're watching a movie: Pizza Dieci. Near Hardplatz in case anyone lives there its pretty awesome. Great pizza for 15 CHF. Its only personal pizza size though.

Jimmy's in Kreis 6 has very good pizza and a cosy atmosphere. The university crowd go there for lunch, but in the evening there are mostly locals. The owner is really friendly and as it is the pizzeria's 17th anniversary, most pizzas and pastas are 17 francs.

I do like Il Golosone but I rate Miracle in Seefeld even better though pizza is just one part of their menu

http://www.miracle-seefeld.ch/?p=home

It is particularly nice to have dinner and then have a walk along the lake back to the city or to make a reservation when Orange kino at the lake is on and then head to the cinema.

Vapiano in either sihlcity or on rämistrasse is my favourite pizzeria, the pizzas taste look and good and price is affordable

Don Leone - I find their pizza very good. The dough is truly Italian and the ingredients are fresh. The service is good and the ambience too.

I went to Golosone once and I found pizza quite disappointing and the service very bad. I would not recommend it!

An Italian friend of mine recommended a pizzeria in Kreis 5 close to Hardbrucke called "il gallo" http://www.ilgallo.ch/

Italian style pizza must be very good and a simple Margherita costs 15.50 CHF, great price! Go, try and then please rate their pizzas

Bar Basso is the new King of Zurich Pizza's.

Tried all the restaurant mentioned here except Michelangelo's, which I'm going to try soon, my favourites are:

1) Ristorante Rosso (pizza is really good, a bit overpriced even for Zurich, and they don't have a lot of choice)

2) La Scala (they serve an oval thin pizza)

Il Golosone was a big disappointment for me.

Still, none of them is good as in Italy, where also prices start with 4€ for a margherita (!)
