Place for stay

Hi,

I am very much aware house hunting is a daunting process here in Switzerland and much more due to surge in refugees from Ukraine.

I will be moving to Switzerland shortly and probably i will be issued permit B as given to one of employee.

I am currently in my home country and trying to find house. I used websites like comparis , homegate ,Flatfox and facebook only to find house getting rented quickly before sending a second message .

I checked the hotels , it looked damn pricy.

Does anyone here knows some property or any leads who could give me lease contract for a year or so as soon as I land there I have home. There will be two guest with me who will stay for 1month so sharing and hotels doesn't work , I prefer to get 2room or 1.5 room somewhere near to my office in Maagplatz -30min commute between office and home works too . Budget 700-1500Chf maximum.

I found some spacious house little outskirt to Zurich for 1400CHF or so . Since I am yet to receive a visa i have not fixed probable travel date.Though I don't have date at the moment to tell the landlord i presume if everything goes well I could land there by June 27.

So does anyone know any landlords who could provide lease in advance.?

Hope someone here helps me out

Best regards

Just beware of fake adverts! A spacious house just outside of Zurich for 1400 CHF is for sure one.

Can your employer provide some accomodation for a couple of months?

I paid double that for a place in a village outside Zug 10 years ago.... so yes 100% fraud, beware.

There are short term rentals that you can rent by the month and leave with 1 month notice. But, price should be close to 2K and quite probably 3K. Check the ads for "furnished rental property" + 2.5 rooms in Zurich https://www.immoscout24.ch/en/furnis...pn=1&r=10&se=1

From a risk management perspective, I would not engage in a 1 year rent contract before ending the 3 month trial period at a new job. Low probability, but a probability higher than zero of not having a job anymore and still bounded by the rental contract.

Have you asked your employer whether they help to provide accommodation for their incoming employees? Some do, and they may have a discount on some short-term rentals.

Landlords in the price range you're looking for just won't rent to anyone who is not already here in Switzerland. I know that's not what you're hoping to hear, but really, that's the blank fact of it. There are many, many people searching in that segment, and so there is no need for any landlord to bother with any application that is not standard, i.e. not from here with all the local documents. They really have no incentive to so do, when they can pick one tenant out of dozens and dozens of applications. This will improve, for you, once you already live here, all nicely registered.

I'd like to encourage you to get your head around this unpleasant fact, and to shift your search fully to temporary accommodation , either of the apartotel (part apartment, part hotel) type, or subletting from someone who's going travelling for a few months. The latter is likely to be cheaper. Or to revise your ideas about sharing, including with your two guests who'll be travelling with you. Or else: first set up your own place, and then invite the guests to visit you later (but of course, you know your/their circumstances and I don't).

I know you said you can't do shared accommodation, which is a pity since it is a really easy way to start out. Even so, on this website, especially for shares, there is a search option "Only Ateliers / Studios" which are typically places with a separate entrance, or at least a lot more privacy. wgzimmer

You might also consider joining Couchsurfing , and making an interesting profile (taking care to protect your identity) and see whether there are hosts who might take all three of you.

Here's a website specifically for sub-letting. ums

https://www.ums.ch/furnished-apartme...6887/8.541694/

Here, too, I recommend looking at "temporary": flatfox

https://flatfox.ch/en/search/?east=9...&west=8.275731

And here, temporary sublets: allekleinanzeigen

https://www.allekleinanzeigen.ch/woh...C3%BCrich.html

There's also this: tutti

https://www.tutti.ch/de/immobilien/o...ch?price=,1500

Here, you can also select "private" landlords, as opposed to companies, and these are more likely to be people just going away for a few months, and glad to get someone to pay their rent while they're away.

Please beware, as you do your searches: as a non-EU person, you must live in the same canton as you work (at least to start with, and unless you get special permission to move to another canton). Where a website permits it, try to search for the whole Canton of Zurich, or Zurich City plus 25km (and then eliminate those places which are in the neighbouring cantons).

Yes i have checked..they don't help . But only give reimbursement

Thank you, have to check these resources which you shared

To be honest, I’m not sure you can invite 2 guests to come with you. I suggest you read section 4 of this link.

Oh, that they will reimburse you some of your accommodation costs is very good news! In that case, you might look closely at the apartotel type of place:

and so on.

Yes, I agree.

Mary, will your guests be travelling independently, as tourists, with their own papers, not connected to you? If so, of course you can meet them here in Switzerland. If, on the other hand, you intend to be their formal host (on paper, for travel documents, permissions and guarantees), then I think Medea is right.

I'm sure you (and they) have reasons for wanting them to come with you from the start, and I'm not presuming to go against those, which I cannot possibly know. The logistics of finding accommodation would, however, be much, much simpler if you first came to Switzerland alone, and then once you're set up (which will take a few weeks to a few months, realistically), they visited you.

Mary, I used HitRental when I first arrived in Switzerland - they provide furnished accommodation on a month-by-month basis, and are Switzerland-wide. I had a really great experience with them, so that's another one to check out in addition to the list provided by doropfiz.

Just to add to this - I completely understand why you'd want people with you for the move, it's a daunting and life-changing experience! I just want to say, if you're nervous about doing it alone, be sure to reach out to the expat community. Ask on here, or on Facebook expat groups, or Meetup events, and tell people that you're new to the country, would like some support and a network. The expat community here in Switzerland is really great (as evidenced by the EnglishForum), and people will generally do what they can to help you settle in, especially if they're aware that you're a bit apprehensive about it all. I really wish you the best of luck!

Somewhat late :-) why not try https://www.guggach.com/en/ as a temporary solution? These are furnished, serviced apartments where you can stay while house hunting. It is also few min bus drive to Maagplatz.

Hi thanks everybody I also have to move to CH for the 2nd time (in Zurich this time).

I wanted to leave a note about my experience with temporary apartments and the permit.

When I went to Bern I choose to stay in a AirBnB accomodation for 1 month . My work contract duration was 1 year.

That was not a good idea as the immigration office told me that they did not accept that . If I remember the duration was too short to request a permit....despite the contract duration.

They could be inconsistent about what they approve and what not, sometimes it depends by the operator you talk with. When I called them before relocating, they said AirBnB for 1 month was not a problem.

They released me a permit only when I managed to find a short term lease without specific end of the contract.

In addition to that, to be able to work I had to request my company to register me for a 90 days permit so I could start working even if I rented with AirBnB.

Now I am looking for those kind of companies offering that kind of flexible contracts (unlimited time but can be easily interrupted) . I will check the links recommended by the other users but if somebody else has something to add, I would appreciate that.
