Place to live in Geneva

Hi friends,

This is my first post . Am moving to geneva for 2 1/2 months during this summer. I will be alone in geneva . Need some places where i can find cheap accomodation. My office is in meyrin. Will it be cheap if I live in the nearby village than living in genea itself.Suggest me some I shud also consider the travel fare to meyrin even. If can find sharing rooms, suggest some. I would also like to know abt living expenses in geneva.

Hi and welcome to the forum, a place of eternal wisdom

You'll be going to be in one of the most expensive towns in the world (if not in the most expensive one). So, please try to accept reality: Nothing will be cheap - neither downtown nor in the whole of the canton of Geneva (even not in neighbouring France). Try searching , this topic has been covered many times before. Good luck, though!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

welcome to the forum. did you think to try a B and B ?

FYI, there's at least three proper public transports to Meyrin.

A train leaves the Gare Cornavin trainstation roughly every 30 minutes and takes 7 minutes or so to reach the industrial zone (in case your job happens to be there and you end up living in Geneva center).

There's a bus which can take an hour to reach some of the more remote parts of Meyrin from the center of Geneva (it zig zags a bit).

And then there's the tram which can take you relatively quickly to Meyrin now that they've been building brand new tracks.

All three of them work with a "generale abonnement" which is a monthly pass and the cheapest way to travel. According to:

http://www.tpg.ch/_pdf/titres-de-tra..._tarifaire.pdf

It's 67chf per month. A single ticket is 3chf for an hour, so do the math

Good luck in any case. Right now you don't really have much choice when it comes to finding a place in Geneva. Sounds like you may just about have to stay at a cheap hotel (there's a Formule1 just outside Meyrin over in France with rooms for about 50 or 60chf a night) or a B & B as was mentioned.

Thanks for giving fast reply ..

As am a student, sharing a room will also work fine with me. Can i expect any such rooms.

I heard of international student hostels located in geneva, which costs aroung 500-600 chf per month. Can someone give me their details. Is it a nice idea trying them ??

Thanks in advance

I think the Cite Universitaire, which is student housing in Geneva's Champel neigbourhood, is open to everybody during the summer months. A friend of mine stayed there last summer for month when he was in town for work. I think he paid around CHF 1000 a month.

You should also check out www.glocals.com , as they're often people who have a room for rent who post it in the classified section.

Good luck!
