places to see in geneva

Hi

cud u guys pls direct me how to go the english garden, the fountain, UN buildings etc. from the Geneva train station.?

Thanx Sree

Whenever I go to a new place I like to check the website of the local tourism office.

I did check the website but it is not mentioned how to proceed from the station.

do we take bus or by walking.?

Yes, or a guide book would also help.

But seriously, there are tourist information booths in every swiss city and most of them give out free maps. So when you get to Geneva, just go to the tourist information at the train station itself and you'll get all the info you need. There will be a sign like a big "i" (with a dot) or ask sometone for the tourist office.

Google Maps is your friend. Here are walking directions from Cornavin station to the mentioned places. All will take about 15-20 mins walk from the station:

To the English Garden (Jardin Anglais)

To the Fountain&hl=en&geocode=%3BCd68m_iMfX1aFasRwQId_-5dACH-VZ69t_ZPjQ&mra=pe&mrcr=0&dirflg=w&sll=46.207024,6.151571&sspn=0.023017,0.038624&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16)

To the UN

thanx a ton genevasculler.

i really appreciate it.

Take bus number 1 direction 'Jardin Botanique'. The stop is directly in front of the train station. Exit at the last stop and you are in front of the botanical gardens and WTO.

Alternatively, take the tram no 13 or 15 (from the same stop), exit at the last stop (Nations). The UN building (Palais des Nations) is right there.

Sorry, in a hurry I mistook 'english garden' for the botanical garden and you meant Jardin Anglais. But I can highly recommend going to the botanical garden. It is bigger and better than Jardin Anglais.

And it is in the same area as the UN.

Agreed, although if you are visiting the Jet d'Eau the English Garden is on the way there, so you could easily visit those two together on the South side of the lake, and then the Botanical Gardens and the UN together on the North side.

Other places worth looking at are the Old Town, including the Cathedral on the top.

We went to Geneva last saturday. I will suggest you to get a Geneva map from Tourist office in Bhanhof basement.

UN building guided tour are operated between 10-12 and 14-16, and do not forget to carry your passport / permit with you, as it is required for admission there. (1 for group is sufficient)

petit palace is worth a visit

Thanx a lot everyone, we visited geneva, and saw everything.

liked it a lot.

thanx a lot for ur suggestions, it helped a lot.

Book - Lonely Planet Switzerland might be of help too

Is the United Nations open on Saturday? From the website, it seems to be closed on weekends.

From the UN website:

In July and August, we are open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The rest of the year, we are open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (except over the Christmas period).
