playboy (teenage boys and adult magazines) ?

here we go.. this I think should cause some discussion... mrs G. and I were babysitting a friends two boys , aged 12 and 14, last weekend while our friend was away for a wedding and early in the evening on the Saturday the 14 year old nonchalantly walked up to me ( as nonchalantly as a 14 yr boy can !! ) and asked me if I could get him a copy of Playboy. So here's the deal... do I risk the eternal rath of the mother, who will find out ( mothers always do ) so this kid can enjoy a few naked boobies`?

Does he really want a copy? Or does he want to know if you will buy him a copy? Or does he want to tell his Mum (perhaps it came up as a joke before his parents left) that you would buy him a copy? If Mrs G was present when he asked, does he want to see how you react in front of your wife? Does he want to impress his friends or his brother with the information that he can twist the babysitter (which word must seem pretty insulting to him!) round his little finger?

The possibilites are endless - and none of them answer your question at all...

well if hes not smart enough to obtain his own copy, by whatever means at his disposal, then hes not smart enough to be looking at playboy.... you could tell him to get a part time job in a newsagents .... free copies of all the magazines that way... However this said , he had the Ba**s enough to ask so if you wanted to help him, id suggest buying a copy and leaving it somewhere he can find it, thereby leaving no blame on you ... oh the joys of being a teenager..

p.s... no mrs. G wasn't in the room at the time.. she just laughed when I told her 5 mins later... neither of us can figure why he wants a paper copy when he has both PC and internet at home. and about asking.. I'm sure he's seen Playboy when visiting out house.. no secret I have it and there often a copy in the bathroom ( TMI ?? )

forget the magazine

Take him to a brothel and get him layed.

He'll thank you for it one day.....

ah, come on... if he can't even type "boobs" in Google and get some hits, Playboy is not for him... Instead of buying him a Playboy.. show him how to hide his traces on their computer instead and how to send connect his phone to the computer and transfer files... that's the modern day method.

Just like you shouldn't be buying him drugs or alcohol, you should not buy him Playboy or ****. Trust me, I'm a mother and I would freak if an adult bought my son something like that. Of course kids will be curious and will find the info they need on their own but as a responsible adult, you should not be his accomplice.

Grynch, why not lock away your **** magazines when babysitting young boys????

Wow, I didn't realize that a short form for pornography gets bleeped out in posts. Good idea I suppose. See what happens with the long word.

Do feel free to use t'internet standard nomenclature pr0n where p-o-r-n is masked out.

LOL, I thought that was a different word that got bleeped out.

If my 14 year old son (if/when I have one) asked for a copy of Playboy I would buy him one. If someone else's 14 year old boy asked me to buy him a copy of Playboy I would tell him to go ask his father.

Thanks Gooner! That's good info to have - I think.

Smitty, you must be a father and not a mother. I don't think too many mothers would do the same.

I know what you mean about the bleep though, hence the quick clarification with the next post before people start thinking that I'm using words much worse than p-o-r-n.

Don't want to drag this off-topic, but maybe it is relevant to the topic at hand... What's worse: 14 year old boy reading Playboy or 14 year old girl reading Cosmopolitan?

Don't all modern day teenagers know how to download the playboy via bittorrent ?

Personally, I agree with Lynn here. You would be in a hell of a lot of trouble if you bought my kids p0rn, even if they were 16, I would be so ticked.

On the other hand, if you draw too much attention to it, they become even more curious about it. As a parent, you should talk about sex with your kids... (I'm so glad I’m not at that stage yet... scarey), and try not to make a big deal about it. Since we all know teen boys are gonna find p0rn somewhere... I would suggest getting different clothing magazines.... let them look at the lingerie section, its a lot less perverted and will satisfy their curiosity for a bit.

i'm sorry, but hiding the world from a 14 year old that is going through puberty and discovering they own (and the other genders) body, is just wrong. Especially, if you react in a way where you just take their computers or what ever away from them.

If you want to have a child of sound and open mind, then teach your child of the world that they are growing up in. Don't hide it away, since that will also only strain on the relationship between you and them. How do you want them to discover the world? By them accidentally stumbling through the things they discover behind your back or learning from their friends. No, treat them as adults, with respect, but also as feebleminded, as they be thought about the world we live in and how to react to it.

Running away scared or hiding it from them is not the way forward.

EDIT: Okay, given them directly adult material as a friend of the family is also slightly dubious, but telling their parents what happened might help them in the long run.

Had the same thing when I tried swanky to discribe a restuarant....god knows what the mods thought was on the menu There you go, it worked this time...typical

I think he was just testing you. You should have called his bluf and told him to ask his dad.

BTW since when is playboy considered pr0n?

Pr0n never, but p0rn still by a few diehards
