pollution badge Germany - wrong number plate

My car has a pollution badge for Germany. Bliss I thought but now I noticed, the number-plate number of the prepossessor is written on it. As it's about the pollution of the car and not mine, therefore that should not matter? On the other hand how do I prove it's the same car?!

Anything I need to do?

Prepossessor basically doesn't exist anymore, I can not contact him if anybody plans to suggest that.

I need it for Frankfurt, not for a town next to Swiss border

I'm under time pressure.

You have to get a new one

Any German garage workshop can sell you one. You need to show them the Swiss car paper, the Fahrzeugausweis.

No vehicle testing necessary, they read the Ausweis (Field 72) and give you the sticker, it costs around €10

Come on, really? Scam!

Where do I get them (no time to mail order via websites)

Okay, can live with that cost. But I need to go off the highway to find a garage workshop? Or may I drive all the way to Frankfurt and find one there?

Is the badge valid for all of Germany?

Unfortunately yes, see here

Should the vehicle have been previously registered in another registration area, you will receive a new registration number. The licensing authority will issue your vehicle with a licence plate and attach the stickers (main inspection and stamp) to it. Should your vehicle have a particle emissions sticker, this will become invalid due to the new registration number.

and here

9. When is an environmental badge valid? Only a correctly displayed environmental badge showing the correct number plate and the right vehicle emission standard for that vehicle is a valid badge. An environmental badge that has not been attached to the windscreen is invalid. If the vehicle details change, i.e. you move to another address or you sell the vehicle, you must buy a new environmental badge.

Whichever you prefer. The green badge allows you to drive into a city center, driving in the suburbs is OK.

But honestly, you won't be noticed, unless you are extremely unlucky. The TCS testing centers can also sell you one.

Yes in all cities where you see this sign

Without is it's an €80 fine

If you care (the fine is €80 if you get caught in a Umweltzone w/o the appropriate sticker) I suggest to pop into a garage near the border. Not all German garage may interpret the Swiss emission code correctly. You may also find a garage who does not care and give you a green sticker anyway.

TCS charges CHF 28, in Germany it is approx € 8 - 12.

If you have time, the city of Berlin sells on to anyone, anywhere for just € 6

Yes.

TüV Süd offers it for €15 (including postage) with convenient online ordering.

Thanks, just called them, they have to order them via ADAC. I have no time for that.

That's what I was wondering as well .... plus after all I DO have one, although with the wrong number-plate-no. How close will they bother to look?

I won't be driving around Frankfurt really anyway .... but the car will be parked in the street

If you stay in a hotel, they often have a service to get you one whilst staying there.

If not, cross your fingers and go to the next garage in Germany and get one there.

It happens. Especially if it is a paid parking area where a meter maid may check.

It's access that counts, not driving. This area is the Umweltzone in Frankfurt, it's the area marked by the A5 in the west, the A3 in the south and the A661 in the east and north. The motorways themselves are not part of the Umweltzone.

No kidding. My car being mainly parked mention was more about what the Swiss answered to. There is a parkhouse near by with a daily max. of Euro 13.00 (we can only dream of such prices here ) - which would be far more than the sticker and far less than a fine.

If I easily find a garage that sells it to me (as only the TÜV ones apparantly can .... I wonder what a non TÜV garage is good for anyway) I'll get one. But I definitely will not spend my time there looking for one. LOL

Thanks for all the quick info, guys.

What is a TÜV-Garage AFAIK any Garage could do it.

There is an A.T.U very close to the Weil am Rhein Autobahn Exit.

http://www.atu.de/pages/meisterwerks...plaketten.html

If they are open at the time you drive through there this is an option.

And along Colmarer Strasse there is also a real TÜV, an Euromaster, and a Mercedes Dealer.

That's what I wondered too (TÜV-Garage) but TCS told me that on the phone.

I will leave via Schaffhausen - Singen.

moser-autohaus.de

or

opel-gulde.de

both in Engen next to the Exit and early opening hours. Would give them a call an pre-arrange things so it is ready for pick-up.

There is a TüV Süd Service Center in Singen (Hohentwiel)... close to the Thayngen border crossing. I think you can order online and pickup at the Service Center for about €6.
