I am a non-EU, B-permit holder, PhD student living in Zurich. My permit expires on Feb 20th and I have been waiting for the invitation/notification letter from the Kreisburo. Maybe I should've contacted them myself, but I didn't and I just noticed it is getting a bit too late. (My friends with similar dates -even later expiry dates- had already gotten their letters a week ago.)
So at this point, here are my questions:
- Shall I try to make an appointment with my Kreisburo to check the status myself or do you think it is still safe to wait. The reason I am rushing is that with the COVID situation it might also take another 7+ days for me to get the signature from the HR.
- A few months earlier, I received a speeding ticket and apparently I was 30 kmh above the speed limit on a highway and this counts as "crime". (Actually I didn't check my criminal record, but I believe it stays for some time) I paid all the fees and everything. I even got my license back after 3 months of separation. But still, might this record by any means affect the process for my stay here or for my permit? Has anyone experienced something similar?
I would appreciate if you share any recommendations you have.
No idea, but as you posted this late yesterday have a bump. Hopefully someone will be along with some helpful info. Are you still studying or will you have finished the PhD?
Not quite the same B as you, but this info might help.
My B permit was due to expire on 11th Jan 21. Given looming brexity potential problems (being a Brit), plus covid lockdowns, I didn't want to wait for the letter. I contacted the Kreisburo back in September to find out what to do.
They told me you can't apply any earlier than 3 months before, but you don't have to wait for the official invite.
So contact them now. I went in to the Geminde office the first day it was allowed and they phoned through and made the Migrationsamt appointment for me while I was there. That needs to be a minimum of about a week later, if I recall. Don't wait!
I just tried calling them yesterday and the lady over there told me the letter will be sent as soon as possible and she even made an appointment for two weeks later so that I can bring the documents.
Well, so far it seems, it is just forgotten or late for some other reason. And I also noticed I actually haven't applied for the permit yet, so I don't think they would even check my records for any reason yet. But I guess I will see soon if my little "crime" activities play any role for this renewal..
No I am not finishing the PhD yet, so the same employer (the university) the same student status are valid.
Three months license ban means it was a "grobe Verkehrsregelverletzung" Art. 16c SVG. Which also means you got a monetary penalty Art. 90 Abs. 2 SVG. Most likely suspended. It will be in the criminal record for the duration of the probation period, which is usually 2 years.
