I've searched, I've looked at other sites, I'm still confused (think I'm just being dim)!
The tedious task of change of address cards falls to me! So how do you write your postal address?
The lease says:
house number, road name
1212 Grand Lancy
So husband reckons I just stick Switzerland underneath and robert's your mum's brother. But I've seen it written different ways and I'm not sure of the 'proper' way.
house number, road name
1212 Geneve
house number, road name
CH - 1212 Geneve
Advice greatly appreciated
either is good, however, just to confuse things further, in the German speaking part, the house number comes after the streetname ...
as long as the postcode is in front of the town, the postal authorities & form designers seem quite happy.
In the French part the number also comes after the street name.
Ah more confusion!
Thanks for the help
Do you know if it is best to use Geneve or Grand Lancy?
Blonaybar has the best one there. Theoretically that address should work internationally since the ISO country code is listed.
But if you give it to a country where say, they aren't so good at dealing with the rest of the world, it could cause major confusion... In which case stick "Switzerland" underneath
La Poste makes available through its website a fantastic tool to clarify cases like this:
http://www.post.ch/en/index/uk_priva...erzeichnis.htm
All you have to do is type in the postal code, and the city and the correct way to write the address shows up.
According to this, you should use
1212 Grand Lancy
Still according to the same source, the ISO country codes are not welcomed when sending letters abroad . It is sufficient to write the country name on the last line in either French or English:

Hope this helps,
Lucy
Thanks everyone for your help much appreciated
In Geneva, the number goes before the street.
Just go with what is on the lease and write Switzerland underneath.
Actually Mark it's Blonay bear but bar will do.....and while you're there mines a double !
Because of the system used for sorting the Post prefer that the number comes after the road name. See here for the address of post offices, enter 1200 Geneva and if you click on any one you will see that they put the number last.
I write the address as follows and have had no problems :-
First Name Surname
Street Name Number
1212 Grand-Lancy
Switzerland
I didn't know that the post had d a preference...
My address in Geneva was
Number, place de le faux adress
1204 Geneva
Switzerland
That was what was on the lease, that was what I used as did everyone else in the building. The OP has the same set up on her lease. Also, if you look up addresses of places in Geneva you will see they list number, street.
see here all the addresses?

I realise that some people are still putting the number first and the site you show is 2 years old, but the Post does prefer that it follows the road name as much of the sorting is now done by machine. The machines read up from the bottom line and left to right so it produces a logical sequence: town, road, number.
