PostFinance finally replace their proprietary bank card with a Mastercard Debit...

Hi guys. Following on from this thread https://www.englishforum.ch/3403298-post20.html I can confirm that I am now the proud owner of a new Mastercard Debit card from PostFinance. After years of engaging in a pot luck crapshoot of hearing: "sorry we don't accept PostFinance cards" wherever I went in Switzerland, I can finally just pay anywhere in person and online. Welcome to 2022.

The amusing thing now is watching people automatically say "sorry we don't accept PostFinance ca...", only for me to point to the Mastercard logo and watch their faces go "ohhhhhhhhh". I guess I will be doing that for the next year or so.

PS: Yes I do have a credit card but it's always nice for people to have the flexibility to manage their finances how they want to.

Can’t say I ever found it a problem. I have one of their debit cards and just loaded a couple of hundred francs - problem solved.

Just when the Cheese shop is about to accept Post.

I literally have no idea what you are talking about... what type of debit card did you "load up"?

I would assume it is this

Credit Swiss did this with their maestro, and are rolling them out as maestros expire. I’ve had mine for several months. It works really well, for me, anyway.

Thanks Chuff for info , I got a new PF card few weeks ago, and I didn't know why, now I see that red and orange circle in the bottom right corner.

A prepaid mastercard, I have had it since I opened the account 5 years ago at least.

They've had the prepaid Mastercard option for at least 15 years ... so you could have both the standard card and the Mastercard. Looks like they've simply rolled the two together now.

That is a pre-paid credit card that you have to manually load, not a debit card where money is automatically taken per transaction. Not the same thing.

Over the years it has worked fine for me on holidays, business trips etc. and I don’t like the idea of people automatically taking money out of my account.

Thanks for the info Jimosaurus, glad you could get that off your chest, unfortunately it's not really relevant to the thread though.

So what do we do with the old card? I mean i can see the new card on the efinance app but i believe that the IBAN number is different. Does someone have any idea?

What do you mean "what do we do with it"? Either cut it up or keep it in a draw as a spare for emergencies eg: if you wallet is lost or stolen.
