I read one report about this that said Swiss supermarkets lack competition. This move will make it even worse.

But for any shoppers, it's simple enough to download the QuickZoll app and declare and pay online. On a 300 Franc food shop it'll be less than 10 francs, which is easily outweighed by the German MWST refund and the price difference.

In other words... Meh.

Italian VAT is the same as Swiss for food (2.5%), and you can only declare for more than EUR 147 (food or not, but only from the same place).

So with these factors can you explain why electronic goods are much cheaper here than in the neighbour lands?

Also, VAT is much lower here which should push prices down.

Prices here are higher simply due to greed.

Employée/employeur charges in Switzerland are far less than in France by the way.

COOP.ch has the highest profit margins of any supermarket in Europe. This is not going, as some have suggested, to the pockets of the cashiers and shelf-stackers.

They and Migros, both inject a lot back into the economy as they are theoretically non-rofit making.

If you want a good example, go look at what Migros did on top of Mont Generoso (Capolago/Ticino) Mario Botta designed it, Migros paid for it.....

They both subvention the arts heavily, think Sektor1 in Aigle this year.

So whilst they make good profit, albeit far less than 10 years ago, they are fairly community conscious.

By the way it is well worth a trip up the mountain and walk down, bit expensive but their are frequently offers available.

Cop / Migras are joke comparing to Carrefour.

Once got stopped by a sleepy custom guy who got lost in his iphone till I passed him in my car. He was interested if I carry more than 2kg of meat. He inspected my 35 days dry-aged 1.5kg Fiorentina steak and was extremely disappointed that he can't squeeze me for it.

Yes, I did (well no, I never boasted..)- I still do as I live so close to border- and as I do not have a Swiss salary or pension either. But I can see both sides, and understand why prices are higher in Switzerland.

Same distance for me to go to Swiss supermarket or French.

Around here most French supermarkets are open Sunday mornings til 12:30 or so. Plus there are a few open air markets in France every Sunday. Makes a difference.

Same here. But much more pleasant to go to France by bike on designated bike route (no car traffic) than the overcrowded narrow swiss roads that are not so bike friendly.

It proves that you went to Leclerc twice in two days. Those alone won’t be enough to prove to them that you stayed more than 24 hours in France.
