Power outage causing work impacts and loss of food

Hi all,

We are in an apartment complex and we recently suffered a power outage for an extended period of time - 2 days. This was due to a water pipe being in the same room as the electrical mains, which blew the major board.

Unfortunately the administration did not have any contingency plan in place, they also struggled with managing contractors with the problems and as a result, the power was out for an extended period, there was no backup power, there was no emergency management.

We lost internet and i was unable to conduct work / on a very limited basis. We also had to throw out food as our two fridges were out for the period.

I queried the administration about insurance but have not received any response. Which parties insurance would cover these claims? Mine, the property manager, or the building owner? are these claims reasonable?

Thanks

Talk to your insurance company. They will certainly tell you who is responsible here. I suspect they will pay you and then go after the other insurance company, but ...

Your tentative demands sound reasonable, but you probably should have made them aware in advance and give them the opportunity to mitigate the damage. Since you have a contract with the owner that's the probable culprit, if any.

Isn't there an office you could go to on such a rare occasion?
