Pre-Brexit (EU Status) applying for C Permit

Hi All,
I have been in Zurich (came pre-brexit so classify as EU status) for nearly 5 years and due to apply for C permit. I meet the Language and integration criteria.
I was on RAV for 13 months Last year, I now have a Job but its a contracting role for 1 year (been already 5 months into the job).
I want to know if prior history of going on RAV for 13 months or having current contracting role thats valid until Feb 2025 would hinder my chances of getting a C Permit?
Any advise or help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome!

Having been on RAV is not an issue. About your contract: I was asked to provide proof of having an open ended contract but that was years ago. At the ‘renewal’ this year they also asked about employment and a confirmation from the employer (or stating you have enough money on your own).

Thanks for your reply. I only saw online stating gainful employment, I can’t really find the information that it has to be a permanent contract. Do you know of anyone in a 1 year contract that has C permit accepted or rejected? Thanks once again for your time

Hi, SwissUK.

My C Permit was issued when I was on RAV payments (without the job). I applied for C permit when I was already registered at RAV and got the C Permit when I was still registered (for 7 more months) at RAV. Canton Luzern, 2021, real case.

I also know of two people who were issued C permits while on RAV, neither were in Zurich though.

I believe Zurich is very strict about being on RAV. Most likely reject it if don’t have employment *although I understand technical RAV acts as the employer). I am more concerned about the my current work contract not being permanent.

Doesn’t it depend if you apply for early C permit or regular? I think early doesn’t allow gap in employment.

(Though UK citizens can apply for regular after 5y so shouldn’t matter)

I got early C with a few episodes being on RAV. I think the only red flag for UE citizen would be to have a criminal record (you can’t ask for social aid on B permit, so that’s excluded)
