Pregnant and new to Switzerland

Hi,

I’m moving to Switzerland and found out we are also expecting.

I’m in the process of taking out basic insurance as I have been told for private hospitals or supplemental insurance I would need to have the policy for a year to support additional costs.

I’m somewhat nervous as due to my history I am currently on high risk referral here and I also have a private consultant.

I was told basic insurance only covers 2 scans and 7 appointments.

My questions I guess are - is there a high risk process in Switzerland?

Is it possible to get more scans or go privately with basic insurance? (Can we pay out of pocket for example?)

Curious if anyone has any advice. Thanks so much.

Yes, you can of course get more scans or more appointments if your condition warrants that. You will just have to pay for any treatment which is not covered by your basic insurance.

I know many women who only had basic insurance when they gave birth, and they were completely happy with the level of treatment received. If you choose to give birth in a private clinic, or you choose a private ward in a public hospital, you will have to pay an extra fee (varies depending on the hospital you choose).

All the best with your move and the pregnancy :-)
