Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you know any prenatal classes for birth and after birth in Lausanne with English speaking midwife?
We tried to register at the CHUV hospital, but they are fully booked in May.
Many thanks for your advice!
Kind regards,
Do them in French instead - I'm sure the relatively limited vocabulary will be picked up in no time, and most of it is copying by example, isn't it? Would be a great way to get some basic language skills as well as meeting real local people rather than just expats.
I'm a man and not a parent so this could be way wide of the mark, but my own experience of being in a Basel ICU for a couple of weeks really helped with my German skills.
Waaaaaaay wide. This is not the arena in which to be learning a new language. IMO. Obvs.
Good luck, OP. And congratulations.
Have you contacted other hospitals in the near? In my classes there were a few ladies that wanted to birth in other hospitals in Zürich, but since they did not have available classes in their hospital of choice, they came to ours. The content is the same, so no reason to stay put in your hospital of choice
Waaaaaaaay wide. Like, Valles Marineris wide. The last thing you want when you are pregnant and preparing to pass a Cantaloupe sized object through your vagina, is learning about it in a language you are not comfortable with.
I would really appreciate someone who speaks English. As given birth and don't understanding 100% what is happening and what if I have to do it will make a situation more stressful.

Congratulations!
If you can get to Vevey, I know that this place does it in English, but I am sure that there must be Sage-femmes available in Lausanne outside of the CHUV.

Panmilar -
https://www.panmilar.ch - offers birth preparation courses in English. We took one of their courses in late 2017 and absolutely recommend them! One of their midwives, Jay Geymeier, is fantastic and followed up on our daughter for nearly 6 weeks after her birth.
Hi, I've just been to the new English Antenatal class at the CHUV and it was great. I recommended registering for that class, you will see a link on the CHUV website where they advertise the normal classes in French. I speak good French, but for anything medical, especially something stressful like birth I prefer my native tongue! There were other nationalities there too. The lady who gives the class is native English speaking and working at the CHUV so is perfect if that is where you plan to give birth.
The next on is on 20th July 2019. I wouldn't worry if that is quite late as I am due to give birth in a few weeks!

Hi, I will try to call them again an book an appointment. When I called a month ago, they told me in May was fully booked and July is too late for me. I will try my luck again. It's great that you liked it
