Pressure Cookers

Hello All,

I got a Thomas by Rosenthal pressure cooker last year with my COOP "märkli (one of their promotionals). I'd like to use it, but there was no instruction booklet with it, which I found odd. I've done a search online for "Thomas Rosenthal Schnellkochtopf Gebrauchsanweisung" but have had no luck finding anything.

Does anyone else have this pressure cooker? If so, could you offer any tips on how to use it? Or if you have the instruction booklet, if there's a phone number or email address for customer service on it somewhere, I'd appreciate it if you could pass on the info.

Thanks so much

I also got that one with the COOP points. I haven't had the chance to figure out what the difference is between the "I" setting and the " II" setting on the button on the lid is, but here is how I have been using it for stews (that's all I have used it for so far).

Pour a little oil in the pot, heat it up and place some chopped onions and garlic in it. Cook until golden and remove from the pot. Place some meat in the pot. Brown the meat. (Don't overcrowd the base or else the meat will start releasing juices and it will boil. Do it in batches if you have a lot of meat).

Pour some stock or water in (no less than 250ml) and some herbs and the garlic and onion.

Screw the lid on, lock it in place using the red sliding button on the handle and turn the setting button on the lid to number "II".

Put your stove plate on the highest setting and wait until the little red button pops out at the top of the lid. When it does, turn your stove to medium heat and cook for 25min.

Take the pot off the stove and either wait for the little red button to fully decompress on it's own or pour cold water over the lid and the little button will decompress a lot quicker.

Do NOT unscrew the lid until the little red button is fully decompressed as the pressure will not be equalized.

Very very dangerous!

Once the little button is fully decompressed, unscrew the lid and put some chopped veggies in.

Screw the lid back on and lock it in place using the sliding button on the handle.

I'll have a look and see if I can find the manual and I'll scan it and send it to you.

Meisie,

Thank you so much for this! It's really quite helpful. Your suggestion sounds like the beginning of a beautiful Boeuf Bourguignon

If you do find the manual and are able/willing to scan it, I would be MOST grateful. Will PM you my private email.

Thanks again

I have this pressure cooker and I use it a lot, mostly to cook beans. I also use to cook meat and even octopus (it was perfect to cook octopus).

There is a mark to show the minimum and maximum limit of liquid that you can put inside, you should observe it. It's recomended that you use only the mark "I" that is on the valve in the lid. The lid and the valve cannot be washed in the dishwasher. Obviously you should wait until there is no pressure to open it.

I remember there was a paper with instructions inside the box. I don't know if I have it anymore, because I remember that the instructions were pretty much those.

Meisie,

Thank you SO much!! You are THE best

Thanks for the recipe

Pressure cookers are great to cook beans (kidney, chick peas, lentils)

Soak them over night or 6 hrs, throw them inside with some salt and water and cook them for 25 mins.....much cheaper to buy the dry beans and cook them than cans but takes some effort (I also use electric rice cooker for this)

Pressure cookers are also great to cook curries esp. lamp curry, fry some onions in a couple of spoons of oil in the cooker, add some chopped tomatoes and any spice/curry powder u have with some gratted ginger and garlic. Add any meat on bone and fry some more until the meat is browned. Now add some thick yogurt/coconut milk. season to ur liking and close the lid. Switch off the cooker after 20 mins if cooking chicken or keep it longer for red meat....garnish with coriander when u open the lid.

In India, down south rice is also cooked in pressure cooker...not basmati but locally produced rice.

Anything that requires hours of cooking on the stove is basically done in 30 mins....

Hey Eclair, I found a video podcast that gave some recipes for pressure cooking. It was dumb.

I just google and find some ideas when I want to use it.

Better to add the salt after they're cooked - makes the skins tough otherwise. 10-12 minutes is enough for most medium sized beans.

You saved my day with this instruktion-help! Thanks again!
