Hi all. I have a hair loss problem, and I would like to treat that with finasteride and minoxidil. I have heard at multiple places that the cost of (generic) medicine is regulated, but I have not been able to find a list of prices. So my question is: is there a list of prices of generic perscription drugs? If not, then does anyone know the prices of the following drugs:
Finasteride 1mg Finasteride 5mg Minoxidil 5% (spray or solution)
Also, apparently not all pharmacies offer the generic versions of these drugs. Does anyone know which pharmacies (preferably in or near Zürich) offer it?
I have tried to find this information online, but unfortunately pharmacies do not share the prices. One place that does, Adler Apotheke, gives the following prices:
Finasteride 1mg generic 100 pills for ~230 CHF Finasteride 5mg generic 100 pills for ~77 CHF Minoxidil 5% non-generic 3x60mL for ~150 CHF
Do other pharmacies offer better prices?
Out of curiosity: do you have a medical prescription?
You'll need a prescription for finasterid. 1mg will not be reimbursed by basic insurance, 5mg would be
Minoxydil tablets are also prescription only, the liquid is available at the chemist without prescription.
You can find the regulated prices (amount the basic insurance will pay) at compendium.ch for things that are reimbursable.
Thank you, compendium.ch was what I was looking for. Unfortunately, since finasteride 1mg is non-reimbursable, the price naturally isn't listed.
Using the prices in the OP, the price of finasteride 1mg is 1394% higher than finasteride 5mg (per mg of finasteride). It's insane, since one could simply cut the 5mg pill into smaller parts. The only difference is that finasteride 5mg isn't officially recognized for use against hair loss. I hope to convince my doctor to prescribe the 5mg variant, but I don't know if Swiss doctors work like that. Does anyone have experience with that?
I use
http://med.mymedi.ch/ if I want to know drug prices in Switzerland.
It's a simple question of supply and demand. There are much more demand for the 1mg packs than the 5mg.
How to you cut a 5-mg tablet exactly into 1mg?
