Hi,

First of all, thank god an English Forum! You have no idea how hard it can be for a non-French non-German speaking person to reside in Geneva.

I'm an IT Professional, from England. I've been posted here in Switzerland. I am looking for a Training Centre for PRINCE2. Is PRINCE2 famous here? It is from where I come from. What would you advice? I'm talking to Firebrand Training (an English company) - do people use them here?

Try Learning Tree we used them for ITIL training and some of my colleagues get trained with PRINCE. Our organization arranged for an in-house training.

Best is to ask Learning Tree if they have a training partner based here in Geneva.

Firebrand are notoriously expensive. Have you thought about studying using a PRINCE2 eLearning package?

Studying PRINCE2 online can be an inexpensive way of gaining accreditation, plus you have the flexibility to study in your own time. There are a range of options both with and without exams.

PRINCE2 exams are held in Basel and can be arranged via the British Council there.

The online PRINCE2 CBT at the above site comes bundled with exam vouchers which you can redeem within 12 months when you are ready to take your exams.

I don't know Simon, I've tried e learning before, it doesn't seem to work for me. I gave up after struggling for 2 months. I think its really hard to motivate yourself on your own. My friend has done a PMP with them - he seemed happy with them. TBH, money's not the deciding factor for me. As long as they are good, I'll be fine with them.

Did you do e learning? How was it?

reviving this old post, can anyone recommend any institute in Zurich for Prince2 Foundation and Practitioner course?

ps: I find a 5 day training in London to be 1/3rd the price asked here, but of course there are overheads of travel and stay.

I did my last 2 PRINCE trainings with SCOPE in London.

Excellent course, instructors and venues. As you say, 30% the price of CH courses and if you take a budget flight and stay in a Premier Inn it works out cheaper and imho better than CH.

Thanks Buddy. Ruling out travel given the flight cancellations and delays being caused by Coronavirus.

I have found a Prince2 Foundation and Practitioner course being offered by www.theknowledgeacademy.com/ in Basel and Zurich, and at reasonable price i.e. CHF 1500-1800 depending upon the location.

Will update this space again if I go ahead with them.

It’s been a decade since this thread was started... and if I were in the market for a certification: since then did the PMP really become the global standard. Not that it’s better, but simply the more known and accepted standard.

PMP is more US oriented where P2 is UK / European / commonwealth biased. I just did a search for european PM jobs at jobserve,com and found 308 looking for P2 certification and only 53 looking for PMP.

PMP certification is more complicated and costly to achieve (needs exam passes, proven experience, project logs etc etc) whereas you can pick up a P2 (class based) certification in a week for around £800 less for self study.

With respect to both certifications "usefulness" I would say neither will make you a project manager, you need to have cut your teeth with some real project experience, however having any certification will certainly give you a better chance of being hired. I speak from > 20 years of freelancing experience with a boatload of different certifications.
