private post box in France

Hello,

does anyone know if there is a service in France near to swiss border where I can have stuff shipped to from the UK and then crossing the border to collect it myself?

Or has anyone tried asking at a French post office whether they do p.o.boxes, for how much and if there is a limit on the size of the parcels?

Btw. how do you say p.o. box in French?

Many Thanks!!

In Switzerland you can have things delivered to the Post Office of your choice as "Post Restante" which means they keep it free of charge for a month, until you collect it using your national ID, or passport.

A PO box is known as a Case Postale and is difficult to get. Most of the post offices are not prepared to tear down walls and put in letter boxes so you can receive your Angling News magazine.

Swiss Post offers Swiss Post Box, you tell the Post to open your mail and scan and send it to you electronically, or redirect it to your hotel.

You will have to go and find out what is available in France.

Perhaps the OP is seeking to avoid Swiss import and admin charges for EU deliveries. I use a PO box across the border in Germany, but there must be an alternative for Vaud based members.

I don't know where you are in Vaud but I've used Poste Restante in Divonne and it is easy as pie. There's some miniscule charge like .80 EUR for the service.

PO boxes, at least locally here in Switzerland, are only given if you can give a good reason for having it (and it's free). I suspect it's similar in France.

Dear Castro,

How and where did you set this up? Is there a size limit for packages?

Officially you need to be a resident in the commune where you want to rent a PB.

But you can have some other possibilities like these : http://www.ubidoca.com/_en/ or http://www.courrier-du-voyageur.com/...te_postale.php

All the details you need are in this thread however not sure how relevent this company will be if you're in Zurich. They probably do have some size restrictions since they're a relatively small shop, but when I last went they still had some pretty big boxes (Hi Fi equipment) waiting to be collected.
