Professional oven cleaning service

Hi all

I would really like to get our two ovens cleaned professionally and wonder if anyone knows of a company that provides this service. (In or around Zug)

Our cleaners are great, but every time I ask them to clean the ovens, they smell of chemicals for days after, which makes me very nervous!

Thanks for any suggestions (That don't include me doing it myself!)

The smell is because of the chemicals in every oven cleaner that I know. But of course, I do not know all of them.

Your question should be: Where do I find an oven cleaner who doesn't use commercial oven cleaning agents. Or maybe ask them directly not to use them? I guess some kind of "bio" "healthy" "natural" store will for sure have something that is not based on potent chemicals.

Thanks for the suggestion. TBH, while they do a good job, I'm looking for a company that will make the inside 'like new'

I also think that the reason why oven cleaners have such harsh chemicals is because nothing much else will shift the cooked in oil

Could you perhaps provide a more organic option for your cleaners? That is what we used to do. I don’t like to use strong chemicals unless absolutely necessary. I had a lovely cleaner in Basel who was very patient as it is harder work for them.

You can’t make it look new without chemicals I’m afraid ...

Actually, harsh chemicals don't have to stink your whole house and make it unlivable.

You just need a strong lye.

Waschsoda (sodium carbonate, not bicarbonate) could even do it, wear gloves, make a paste, towards liquid side, smear all around, put plastic foil over it so it doesn't dry too fast, leave overnight.

That one is easy to buy, but I admit, it's finnicky to do it I guess. I haven't tried, just sharing what is a good lye, and since it has nothine else, there's no smell at all.

Or, lazy way - use this thing:

I forgot which lys exactly is in it, I think KOH, but might be some other one.

It smells decently nice actually.

Use same procedure as mentioned above, ignore the pinsel instruction, just shove and smear it it with your thick gloves all around.

Leave overnight.

Come back and rinse well.

I did it for just an hour or so, and it removed all but few small stubborn spots, and I was lazy to do the another round, then we moved out...

However, for all other parts it was indeed 'like new'.

Considering how it was almost zero effort, it's like a magic.

Pics in the reviews are indeed genuine show and tell how it works.

I think I've read that some potz has the same base ingredient, but your signature might be needed for that? Sorry, forgot the name when people were talking about it.

And yes, wear protection and be insanely careful, it IS strong lye. I saw a review now of someone who didn't take the precaution seriously and now is blaming the product that 'it's too strong' 🤦

I've checked, yes indeed, ingredient is 'Kaliumhydroxid (vgl. Ätzkali)'

Plus some perfume

At least now I remember why I have KOH in my basement exactly, I wanted to make my own without any smell

I came across this Dr. Beckmann oven cleaning gel that is apparently odorless and received excellent reviews on amazon.de:

Galaxus.ch has it available for only 6.15 CHF per bottle:

I think I'm going to order it and try it out. It's been quite a while since our oven had a good cleaning.

There is a chemical smell because the chemicals are still in the oven.

Just rinse the oven inside properly with clean warm water after cleaning.

I found this product mentioned elsewhere in the forum and tried it. Worked very good, compared with other methods or cleaners. It was still tough job to do, but probably I need to clean oven more frequently

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I might get my cleaner to try one of the above methods or products.

Regarding rinsing the oven thoroughly, it's more the steam oven, that has lots of nooks and crannies, where it becomes difficult. (We use our steamer as a conventional oven mostly)

It's ok as in 'doesn't kill you with stink', but it's miles away from the one I've mentioned above. I used it in my previous life on significantly lower amount of grease than when I did this 'mine'

We grilled bunch of chicken wings several times in a row. We'd clean with frosch sodareiniger but those polymerised grease spots would stay and polymerise more each time. Then after several months of that I've cleaned with Maxx clean and I was in shock how easy it was compared to any other method I've ever tried (on 'regulary' used oven, so no grilling in it)

I've just checked, this from dr beckmann is Natriumhydroxid, which if I remember correctly is less powerful lye than Kaliumhydroxid. I might not remember correctly though.

But Natriumhydroxid is more powerful than Natriumcarbonate (washing soda) which is more powerful than Natriumbicarbonate (baking soda, natron).
