I've just returned from a jolly jaunt to Lausanne with my Learned Companion, where we ate a horribly expensive 'Greek' meal in the
Lyrique restaurant, a little way down from the Place St-François in the centre of town.
It was all very nice - and the crème brûlée, flambéed with orange liqueur, was the best thing I've eaten all week - but it was not really as Greek as one might expect from the menu, being more a kind of mediterranean-fusion-boho-chic melange of endives, lemon sauce and chips.
Does anyone know where the proper Greek food is to be found in Lausanne (or the surrounding area)? Where do the Greeks eat? I'm not bothered whether it's a back street souvlaki joint or a cloth-napkin and sit-up-nicely restaurant, so long as you get a decent portion of meat and half a lemon at the side of your plate to squeeze at your discretion.
All advice and suggestions gratefully received.
I can only think of one Greek restaurant in these parts, and it's (or was? I haven't walked/driven past that part) near Rive in Geneva... (Avenue de Frontenex according to bing maps).
After having lived over half a dozen years in Greece, my older sister and mum passed on a ton of Greek recipes to me, and after having given them a go, I think I'd rather just do them home
I did try a few greek dishes in Paris which were't too bad, but over in Switzerland... eh, I don't think this country is really made to deliver the good stuff. But I'm happy if someone can prove me wrong

Know the Lyrique well - not a bad spot for a cafe in the morning and a read of the local journals. But you'll find me more at Bar Tabac for that, right down street on the Rue Beau-Séjour 7, which will include the best of smoky jazz tunes starting at 07h00 weekdays. Lovely owners too.
But to your request not far from where your galavant bohemian ancestor Lord Byron got inspiration for composing his epic The Prisoner of Chillon lies the restaurant grec Mata Kalimera , situated in a few air molecules of a place called Veytaux. And smack dab in front of the shores (but north side of the Route Nationale) of Lac Leman. Terrace also available at MK to enjoy the south facing view across our lovely sea.

As good as it gets down here in canton de Vaud. Plus a stroll down to the Chateau de Chillon is highly recommended before or after said spread of greek delights.
Cheers
There's a good Greek restaurant in the Seefeld district of Zurich, and a more relaxed souvlaki place near Stauffacher in the same town, so it's not a complete desert... but I must admit that Lausanne presented us with something of a disappointment - at least regarding Greek food. The city has other charms, though.
This sounds very promising! Thank you!
Thanks about the tip tiny_tim, next time I'm in Montruex I will try Mata Kalimera (which sounds as stupid a name as they can get but anyway).
To add some wisdom in this forum, there's one place that makes almost very good Greek souvlaki in Geneva, Souvlaki Fan (I was impressed by the originality of the name), close to Planpalais. It's next to Emilios Restaurant (they are both owned by the same person I think), which is not a bad place either but not of my taste.
I can recommend Souvlaki Fan if you prefer the Greek version to kebab, but Emilios is the kind of a place I would never go to in Greece and a little bit overpriced.
It's funny I discovered this thread today, as last night I made tzatziki, tuna-salad (my mom's personal recipe) and Greek salad, to accompany my Italian flatmate's moussaka. And just to make jealous, I have to admit that while my tzatziki and tuna-salad were quite OK, my flatmate's moussaka was EXCELLENT.
