I ́ll officially move to Bern in one month, I just want to thanks everyone in this site, Ive been reading this forum months ago since I wanted to know more about how is it by a foreigner to live in Switzerland and it has helped me a LOT!!
I have a question for Msc students... how long did you have to wait the final decision for universities?? Im an industrial engineer and I applied to the MTEC programm at ETH Zurich and I want to know how long do I have to wait to finally receive the admission/rejection decision... Ive received the pre-application decision really fast and it was positive, so Im getting nervous because >I havent received the final... is anyone here in the same situation?? I would like to read similar experiences...

Good ...i suppose you have applied for the Summer semester starting in July/ August right!!
It usually takes 3-6 weeks in case you have supplied with all the required documents.
I could provide you with some more informations if you let me know the University from where you have done your Bachelor's.
Well.....shifting to Bern and studying in ETH, Zürich..hey it would be a long travel each day..i suppose...

Last year I was in the same condition as you are now, as I applied for a MSc in Management at the University of Lugano / Università della Svizzera Italiana. As you did, I did it quite in advance (March) and like you, I had a provisional positive feedback quite early, but then nothing more for months. In May, there was an open day, and I got the chance to go and ask about the status of my application. They answered that I'd been admitted and so I asked them to give me a written statement of that very same day. I was lucky, since they were so kind to give me this admission statement immediately. You can try this strategy too, I know what it means to feel "blocked" and to be waiting for months...

I applied for the autumm semestrer which starts in September... they told me that the final decision responses may take until the end of May... but in my case, I ́ve sent the documents since early january. I am originally from Mexico and my school is Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM)... it ́s a private university in Mexico and its the best school in Mexico for engineers. Probably Im not a common case in ETH because I dont think that many students from latinamerica apply here... I dont know...
Yep! I know.. Bern to Zürich... it will be quite far, but Im also applying to University of Fribourg and until further notice I will stay in Bern to continue with my german classes.

I feel much better after reading your response, even if Im not applying at the same university as yours, at least I think now that is kind of normal this long wait , and it ́s a good idea!! If i dont hear anything during may I ́ll go and ask directly at ETH, or probably make a call...

Hi Paola,
I am a PhD student in MTEC. There are many Latin American students in the various MSc programs so I wouldn't worry about that. I would be patient as admissions can be very bureaucratic here. Are you able to call someone and check the progress of your application? Good Luck!

I would like to echo Hash s sentiment and take it one step further. Your application will take longer since you are not european and then getting your visa will take even longer for the same reasons.
You should not worry about getting into the University just make sure that if you don t recieve any word by May to call the office responsible and even offices that are not responsible. . . you would be surprosed what you can find out sometimes . Having had some bad expierences write down the names of people you speak to, the date, content of the conversation and time. Often somebody says something becasue they assume you have this or that and then it turns out to be wrong for your particular case etc. If you at anytime get the sense that something is not going correctly then follow up on it and don t take "no", and "that isn t possible" for answers. Deadlines here are almost like the word of God, so keep them on your toes and you will be fine.

When I checked on my applicatin process, and had questions different people gave me different answers. They even sent me into a panic when one person told me I was not accepted, but he didnt know what he was doing. The guy was a low level person. I suggest for the major questions that you talk with people of higher rank.
Also, as stated above keep a record of who you talked with, time, date, and what they said.

Similar situation. My documents (also for MTEC) were checked and sent to Admissions Office on 26 February, but still no answer.
The travel is not so bad! I make this trip everyday, and then out to Adliswil. You can always have a snooze on the train in the morning if you have an early start Thats what I do!
