I understand why people get annoyed by cyclists going through red lights (I don’t) but to get annoyed by people cycling safely… that’s a new level of Karen.

Cyclists are like the transgenders of the road.
They try to identity as something they’re not, they go into spaces where they don’t belong, everyone’s sick and tired of them and they try to force everyone else to go along with their zany rules.

That is devastatingly tragic.
Looks like it was a drunk driver who hit them head on whilst overtaking a couple of vehicles.
On the eve of their sister’s wedding too.
Well, kids these have worse eyesight, blind spots in trucks are too large, or something needs to be checked for drivers?
You can’t blame the kids in this case - two were hit by an SUV whilst crossing a pedestrian crossing on the way to school in Luzern and were luckily only slightly hurt.
Not necessarily in this case or the others but many drivers should perhaps concentrate on their driving instead of on scrolling on their phones.

I just checked this report from Swiss office for accident prevention. It’s sad that children are hurt, but the numbers show that it’s a cleansing of 65+ YO.

They do seem to be involved in a high percentage of motor car accidents which are attended by the Police, both as drivers and pedestrians - they seem to be good at putting each other in hospital.
Many of them really shouldn’t be driving.
First of all I want to tell you that in Switzerland, even kindergarten children are instructed to cross the street only when they assured themselves that the wheels of the cars have stopped.
You won’t find more diligent and law abiding pedestrians than school kids. It is almost “comical” if you watch them when they cross the street - they’re like really old people, very very cautious.
It is the drivers that need a check up. And I am sorry to say this, but many of them are complete, utter a**holes. As for the driver in the article you have quoted…I have no words.
This one was on a pedestrian crossing too. A five year old girl was run over by a lorry.
It’s not always as black and white as that: I’ve seen children waiting at a crossing. A car has stopped and they’ve started to cross.
But then a car coming the other way has not seen the children as their view was blocked behind another car (German Panzer) in a queue of traffic.
These are kids.
The onus should be on truck and car drivers to watch out for children and take preventative action - slow down* and be prepared to stop.
*And f**k off to the car driver behind you who blasts his horn with impatience when you’ve slowed down (I’ve witnessed this many times here, both as a pedestrian crossing with kids and as a driver).

Yeah, since I know the kids now learn explicitly “until the wheels have stopped” I don’t bother slowing into rolling slowly anymore but drive up to the cross-walk and stop completely. If necessary I give them a clear sign as well but the well-brought-up ones usually thank me by hand-sign and I sign back.
It’s also all a matter of “language” and the language has changed over the years.
Absolutely, my point was that I found the question a tad futile.
Well, it was a “rhetorical question” anyway.
Obviously it’s the drivers who should pay attention in any case (and take preventive measures), even if the kids are taught from early ages how to behave in traffic. (and they do behave in general, in my experience, so if kids can…why not the adults behind the wheel?)

Something unexpected. US NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is proposing new regulations to protect vulnerable road users. Vehicles under 10’000 pounds (4540 kg) would have to be tested along pedestrian dummies to assess their impact on people “outside the car” as part of their safety rating.
Does that sound familiar? Pedestrian safety tests (impact on head, pelvis and legs) have been part of the EURO NCAP safety rating since 1997.
It may not change the world since overnight, but within 10 years the average car may be different.

It’s worth noting that this applies to cycle lanes on roads, and is not mandating that if a separate cycle path exists you’re not allowed to use the road. You absolutely are, except where specifically excluded, e.g. motorways.
Used to annoy the hell out of me when motorists would suggest that the existence of a cycle path network (e.g. the redways in Milton Keynes, where I used to live) meant that I should not be cycling on the roads 
Was always much quicker on the road, and apart from a bit of verbal on occasion I never had any problems cycling on them.
