Protection of vulnerable road users from motorised traffic (both perceived and actual)

It was a black BMW with big ass rims. The perfect anti-cyclist ride.

Probably shared fault. It was dark. I was turning left into a parking lot infront of a supermarket. The lady on the bike hit me from a weird 60 degree angle from behind on my back door and slid along the side of the car. I did not see her coming, she was neither on the road nor on the sidewalk. Nothing happened to her other than an understandable shock and emotion. And an awful scratch on the side of my car. Her bike seemed intact as far as one can say that for a piece of scrap worth 50 francs.

Up in the air? She must have been somewhere.

There’s that “entitled” attitude I mentioned. Why does it matter that your car is worth more than her bike? Why the need to insult it?

“It cannot happen to me” is complacency as defined in safety literature.

She might have been air-borne briefly after she hit me. As I wrote, I did not see her coming and there was some open space next to the pavement.

Funny that you speak of attitude. You seem to think anyone driving a BMW is out to kill cyclists. You may recall that I reported a truck driver to the police last year because he had almost wiped me off the road when I was cycling.

The constant mentioning of BMWs is a bit weird, to be fair. I don’t see BMWs driving any differently in the traffic to anyone else.

If there are stats that show they are more often in accidents could it just be that they, like Mercedes and Audis are just the most common on the road in these parts? You could argue that drivers of Bugatti Veyrons are super safe because such a low number of them have collisions.

Not sticking up for any particular brand (except little VWs, those drivers are perfect. And sexy, obviously ) just pointing out that statistics might be at play.

No, it’s not. What is it with BMW drivers?

Personally, if I’m cycling here on a mountain road and I see a BMW coming down , or up behind me, I take avoiding action before they get near me. Aggressive, threatening, entitled road hogs (and sometime worse).

From Google:

In June, a group of cyclists in Worcester said they were targeted by a BMW driver who threw drawing pins on the road in front of them.

A BMW driver and an accomplice are believed to be deliberately injuring cyclists by pushing them off their bikes before driving away.

If you do a google search for “Cyclist collision + [make of car]” you get tons of hits each time. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I did it with a handful of the most popular makes you see on the road here.

Could you please give me the memo about BMWs 'cause I seem to have missed it…I would say all sorts of people drive BMWs but maybe that’s because I’m very naive.

Maybe the undercover traffic police here used to drive what seemed to be innocuous BMWs? :joy: Or was that Audi? (I forgot)

Edit; I see you have posted something but that seem to have happened in the UK.

The thread title…

One mod is definitely naughty.

I’ve owned 5 BMWs in 15 years so my cyclist genocidal credentials are well established. Now that I drive a Tesla I’m able to sneak up on them silently, what a difference it makes.

I always suspected that you had quite a loose definition of genocide :joy:

UK, Belgium, USA, India…

Lots of anecdotal evidence from cyclists that it’s BMW drivers giving them the most grief.

To whoever changed the title? BRILLIANT

Obviously!!! The drivers, not the little VWs… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Which mod did it? Normally they note when they have made changes like that.

Can you change it back please. You’re a mod.

Actually, you can just change it to:

New study reveals BMW drivers most likely to be “psychopaths”

Which mod changed it? Do they have the guts to own up or are they one of those keyboard warriors?
Having been nearly run down as a pedestrian and a cyclist several times here by BMW drivers and having had BMW turn round and drive back towards me threatening after near misses and been forced off the road, I think I’m entitled to be emotional.

So then the thread title seems accurate.
