Public schools in NYON vs GLAND

hi,

I would like to get a comparison of the public schools between nyon and gland. My children are of the age 9 and 6 and also non french speakers. I would also like to know the sports facilities available at both the public schools.

Thank you.

They are all the same.

Tom

When you say "public schools" do you mean the state schooling or are you using it in the British English way meaning " private schools) "?

State schools are pretty much on a par with each other, all following a similar format. There will be language help for non-native speakers and they have sports lessons a couple of times a week.

For extra curricula sports, you'd have to join a club for that particular sport which is usually nothing to do with the school.

As regards private education, I've no idea about the schools in that neck of the woods. Sorry.

Perhaps re-read your previous thread since most of your questions are answered there.

Yes, i was referring to the state school.

Well i have visited the school in gland but didnt get a chance to visit the school in nyon. Hence still have the question.

Then you have little choice but to visit that school as well, cause the answers you will be getting here won't change. And if you don't trust these answers, then asking the same question over and over again won't increase your trust either...

As Tom brilliantly summarized: there's really not much difference anyway.

Thank you for all the responses.

Your kids will appreciate to go to local school in the neighborhood, helps the integration + socializing. Both municipalities supervise keeping the same educational standards, the regulations are the same. When you enroll the kids, you will get a placement anyway, where there is a free spot. Commuting to another school for young kids is usually not suggested by the dept if there is a free place in the nearest school. As for living and integration - go for Nyon, it is easier for newcomers.

Hi I see this is an old post... I grew up in Nyon and would not recommend Nyon! They might have changed lol hoping they did. That is why we prefer homeschool and there are about 20 families in Vaud who homeschool and it is getting bigger by the second. We do outings, etc.

Are you allowed to homeschool in English?

Hi .

In Vaud yes and some other Cantons as well. I can pm you. However if your child is still mandatory age they require an inspector. I can connect you with the head of the homeschool group in Vaud.

If you are not in Vaud not sure who your contact person is.

No thanks, I am a grandmother and previous UK teacher. I was just wondering if that was allowed- to homeschool in a foreign language- thus never be able to rejoin mainstream education. I am really surprised it is allowed.
