Pully or Morges?

Hi All,

We are new to the forum and are moving to Switzerland in Aug of this year. We have found potential housing in either Pully or Morges. Can anyone give me some strengths and weaknesses of the two different areas? I only visited both briefly, an hour or so, and it seemed like Morges had more town "life" but I know that Lausanne is close by Pully.

Any thoughts let me know.

Many thanks.

M

Pully is an independent municipality, but if you didn't know, you wouldn't know you are outside of Lausanne. Transportation is very developed. It might be the only place in Switzerland with such size which has two SBB - served train stations Pully and Pully-nord due to two major SBB routes merging in Lausanne just after Pully.

Morges is a small town, yet is separate from Lausanne. Pully is one of the more affluent regions of greater Lausanne, while u can find cheaper offers in Morges.

Morges. Especially if you need an airport, the GE connection is easy. Morges is on the GE - LS line, quite practical. It's a pretty town, too.

Pully I'd opt for if I worked in LS and didn't mind bedroom communities.

I have one child if it helps (and maybe step children visiting).

Pully is very center Lausanne, where Morges is in the middle of everything, yet far away as you have one of the busiest motorway section connecting this town and for wherever you may want to go you'll have to get the car or spend an a good 30 min or more on the train.

Pully is a bedroom community but a very nice one (and expensive, let's not forget). The south train station is something like 2-3km away from Lausanne main train station so you definitely don't need a car and you can pretty much walk to the center of Lausanne.

I think you will find money will rent you a bigger place in Morges rather than Pully if that is what you prefer.

Both offer different things it depends what you are after.

We have recently moved to Morges and really like it. It is well connected by public transit to Lausanne (10 mins to the center), and Geneva/GVA airport (30 mins). It has a nice town center with lots of services, and it has great access to Lake Geneva.

Pully is nice, but it is more of a suburb than a town.

6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other.

Personally, I have a preference for Pully.

But where are you working? Pick the side of Lausanne closer to where the office is. Getting through Morges at rush hour is a b!tch. So if you work in say Rolle, then pick Morges so you don't have to go through Morges to get to Pully.

I like Pully, probably because I'm living very close!

It's got everything you need close-by: public transport (bus and train), supermarkets, good schools, etc.

That being said, Morges is a very cute little town, pretty lively on the weekend.

I like morges you have the lake which is gorgeous in the summer, swimming pool, ice rink, cinema, good connections for the train many of my friends have caught the train simple one line here. Nice park, restaurants for the evening..

I live just outside morges in village but under same school district and they are good schools here have 3 kids with 2 in nursery ( 1 just about to start infants in sept) and one in local primary school.

Good luck on your move.

I have a preference for Morges for a very silly reason: it's flat!!!! It makes it much easier and more pleasant to get out and walk around (especially if you have small children like we do). Morges also has a lovely centre that is small and compact yet contains pretty much everything you might need.

Otherwise it'll depend on proximity to work, cost, etc. like other people have pointed out.

Oh, this is very true. Expect going up and down the hill if you live in Pully, period.
