Purchase plane ticket in person

Has anyone tried this at Swiss? I am trying to do this because you have to pay OPC (optional something something but it really isn't optional..) on their website if you pay by credit card. Someone mentioned in another thread that you have to pay an even higher in-person service fee at their counter, but the link they gave expired and I couldn't find any info about this service surcharge online.

Thanks everyone.

For best results, pay in cash and only one-way.

To clarify, I would like to pay in cash in person, but not sure if they will charge a service fee at the counter.

So what if they do, if you want to travel, you'll have to pay it

https://www.swiss.com/il/EN/customer...service-center

Call and ask, they speak English.

Alternatively I recommend you to book through a third party which offers the best price and no fee for your chosen payment method. Search and select the best offer: https://www.skyscanner.ch

The OP wants to pay in CASH, that limits his options to a travel agent who will charge a fee or airline desk.

Paying in cash is almost always more expensive than finding the cheapest OTA by Kayak/Scyscanner.

Paying Swiss by cash in their office at Paradeplatz will give you quite some extra surcharge.

Postcard imho is free with Swiss directly. And for cheaper tickets the credit card surcharge isnt too high anymore (percentage instead of fixed)

Long haul I try to avoid Swiss myself. More bang for your buck elsewhere..

I always pay online with a debit card, no fee.

I always pay on the airline's website with a credit card and suck up any charge because:

credit card payments are insured

cuts out any potential hassle with third parties if an issue arises.

One thing worth noting about Swiss, they're on at least one cashback website that I know of. I book them via Topcashback.co.uk where Swiss are currently offering 1.51% cashback. It's not a lot, but I do all my online shopping through that site anyway.

In Geneva I wanted to buy in person a Swissair ticket, went to the airport and the guy spent half an hour telling me that it would be more expensive through him, though I can't recall the actual fee. He didn't charge for spending half an hour explaining it to me, and I couldn't help thinking that he could have just processed my ticket without charging me extra instead - obviously not his call.

Anyway, I ended up using another airline.
