put.io - Next generation audio and video sharing

An interesting development in movie and music downloading or sharing should anyone know anyone that does it (allegedly, not that I think anyone does).

Put.io is a server side storage that has a difference that the servers are themselves seeders and leechers for content and as a result data can be streamed around put.io servers at server-side data transmission speeds (1gps you would assume) and then the service allows you to stream the content from the servers to a browser over SSL.

As well as allowing rapid "downloading" (because you dont download it you just move it around the server cloud), the RIAA have a new problem in that the traditional check, using the client IP, does not work because the SSL streaming reveals nothing you would need to trap the film as it went into the cloud... almost impossible.

Legality of the solution aside I think its a nice development of technology using server side sharing to move the data around very rapidly.

If pirating films becomes as mainstream as music, filmmakers will have to act, and act pretty fast or get caught napping, very much like the music industry was.

I would hate to see filmmakers use product placement or something equally ghastly as a replacement revenue stream to replace DVD's...

'The Trueman Show' format on every production...YUK...But you don't make films unless you stand to make money!

I wouldn't buy the service I'd copy it, as the commenters say Dropbox already do more or less the same thing so the I.P is not protected, even if it was Hollywood is rich enough to settle any claims or license it.
