Apparently it's also allowed to drive them only with motorbike licenses but I don't understand which license is usually required. A unlimited/limited/A1 Maybe it depends on the individual quad's specs.
They should correctly be referred to as Quadricycles.

I know I am being fussy, but it is just one of those silly things that bugs me
The legislation depends on the weight of the vehicle. There are also car-like vehicles that are classified as quadricycles e.g. Aixam
Oh, and finally people look prize dorks riding the things - as if they can't balance a two-wheeler...
We have many deaths in Australia each year due to roll-overs...
And plenty of near-misses, permanent head injuries and broken bones.
They roll over too easily, are heavy, and there is no roll-cage...
For the motorized versions, the advice given here above is very sound.
I am thinking about buying an ATV/quad. I live in Urdorf (near Zurich). Do you know maybe some places where I could actually drive ATV, off the road? Also is anybody maybe from the area which regularly drives ATV? Are there some groups or clubs?
Also if I have UK driving license will it be legal to drive ATV/quad in Switzerland? (I am planning to exchange my license to Swiss license)
Thanks
