International Adoptions: where to begin?

thanks all.so helpful. I just find out is lot of thing which I never can find in adoption site so I should register in adoption group & ask the members .hope everything going well

Since every case is unique please go and ask your zentral behorde adoption und pflege familie, they will give you a brochure and all the documents you need to hand in, they might change from kanton to kanton

Best wishes

same all research only showing American agency!

I search in Czech too

You need to find the local agency for your Canton. It's is possible to adopt. There will be a lot of hurdles and money involved, and the process can take a couple of years. The sooner you get started, the better.

Did you read the links listed on this thread ? There's a lot of information there. If you are living in the German part of Switzerland then a friend of ours who successfully adopted a child, found that they needed to do a lot of documents and interviews with a reasonable level of German... ultimately, if you plan to stay in Switzerland, or have permanent residency already, then the authorities will want to know that you are integrated, and you can successfully integrate your child. It might also be possible to adopt via Czech if that's your citizenship, and of course that would mean speaking directly to those authorities.

Do you know where you plan to adopt a child from ? From your home country, via your family, or from another country ? Those are questions to ask yourself and your partner... I'm not sure if single people are allowed to adopt children in Switzerland...

To be honest, I think you really need to show some resourcefulness. The first link I got when I put 'adoption switzerland' was this one:

http://www.ch.ch/private/00029/00036...x.html?lang=en

yes I read all.what is all site saying is:

Who can adopt a child?

• couples who have been married for at least five years or who are over 35 years of age

• you may also adopt your spouse's child if you have been married for at least five years

• it is also possible for a single person to adopt a child.

& everybody know is not easy like this and they will make lot of excuse that you are not good enough to adopt a kid. I know many people they had bad experience, they pending time and money years after that receive NO answer. That's why is so important which agency you choosing & we didn't find any agency yet

We don't care child be from which country but we looking in Europe because is better for kid looks like same .many of my friend that adopt for example from Africa of china have painful experience in school with their kid's friends .

will be happy if you can ask your friend more info for us. We are in German part as well (Zürich)

Ahoj šímo,

I second what has been mentioned here, not sure how fluent you are in local languages, etc. but it might be difficult here. Contact local authorities, nobody will do that for you.

I think it is easier to adopt back home than here, but I am not sure. Contact adoption agencies back in Czech Rep, I think it would be good to contact kojenecký ústav (hospital dept for babies, newborns to 18mo, with no home), there is one at Thomayerova hospital in Prague, kojenecky . ustav @ftn.cz . If they have time, they will direct you.

Yes, then click the link at the bottom of the page. It takes you to the government portal for adoption.

You need to then click the link that says 'international adoptions' and read through that background information.

On the right hand of that page is a set of links which open documents that you need to download and read through. One of then gives you the link for the official swiss adoption agencies.

Oh, here it is! - The adoption agency for the government in Bern...

http://www.bj.admin.ch/bj/de/home/th..._adoption.html

At this point, the information is going to be in German, French or Italian. Like I said, my impression from my friends is that at some point you will not get far unless you have the ability to complete at least part of the documentation and do interviews in part in one of the official swiss languages.

On the left hand of the page where I got this link is a list of other links that you need to work your way through - under the heading 'Internationale Adoption' there are 12 pages/links which you should work your way through...

Oh, and I definitely recommend you join an online adoption board, hopefully you will find one for Czech families who have adopted from Czech or from other countries.

The system is definitely quite different to the USA, and you have to be approved by the Swiss authorities before you adopt, and only once you have been approved can you then go to an 'agency' which is probably located in the country where you are planning to find the child.

I have family and friends who have adopted from Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa, each with a unique story about how they came to adopt the Child.

Basically, there are two sides, ones is to go through an approval process with the swiss authorities, and the other side is finding the child. Maybe the Swiss authorities will help you find the child, maybe you already have a child in mind (my Nigerian friend adopted her sister's child), or maybe you have to use an approved agency in the country where the child is found. You definitely have to use an approved agency, and you definitely have to do the right things before you find the child - there is no point finding the child first, and then discovering that you cannot get permission to bring them to Switzerland, or you leave the child for 2 years in an orphanage, or other difficult situation, because it takes so long to get the approval.

I hope that makes sense. I realise you probably have very little background understanding of how adoption works, and it's really late and I'm tired, so sorry if I sound a little terse.
